Engine cutting out problem on Clio 1.2

Hey all,

Friend of mine has a 1999 Clio 1.2 RN.

This is the problem he is having:

1.open my car with key fob (central locking)
2.Car turns over but then goes off.
3. Does this about 2-3 times, then starts.

Any ideas what it coule be?

idle adjustment possibly, fueling problem, if its stuttering then possibly faulty igniton coil...

When i owned my 1.4 dynamic i has this problem, when it was taken into Renault, it was down to a faulty Ignition coil.

Extremley common fault and one that Renault will put right without any major fuss. (As long as the car is still in Warrenty)

yep id say ignition coil - happened a few months ago on my dynamique

Could be ICV if not a coil

Id say the ignition coil, had this problem twice and have had 2 new coils since owning the car!

Update to this.

Mi friend has said when the car starts then goes off the immobiliser light flashes.

yeah it will that is just so you know the immobilsor has set itself.

if it was a fault with the immobilsor you wouldnt be able to start the car, all that would happen is the car would turn over and not start.

Idle Control Valve. Could just be dirty and need a clean, nbot the most likely, but worth trying coz you can clean it yourself!
