Clio 182
So long story short : alternator seized, aux belt shredded but not snapped, bits of aux belt eaten by engine which has messed up Cambelt engine now dead, this summarises what the garage told me earlier today.
I'm not a mechanical person so unable to perform any work on the car myself so am reliant on a local garage for work doing and general fault diagnosis.
car itself is an 04 182 ff which I have owned 18mths car itself I have been told by various mechanics is in overall good shape.
So really what I want to know is do I cut my losses and break it or source parts and get it fixed?
garage have qtd £500 to fit a replacement engine, am assuming this doesn't include performing a Cambelt change on it (I do have access to the correct genuine locking tool for this if they haven't got one) where do people recommend sourcing an engine? Ideally would want something with some form of warranty or assurances its a decent engine.
would also need to get the clutch done at same time as its starting to wear thin. Overall estimate so far is don't expect to get change out of £1500 understandably not the best news I have had today!
not sure what return I would get by breaking it and I really enjoy it (when it deigns to run) as a car
Any advice would be most appreciated
