Engine/gearbox mounts for a 172 Cup (Ph2)- looking for recommendations/advice

I'm looking to replace my engine and gearbox mounts as soon as possible, but the problem is I have no idea which ones to get.

I mean, I've done a bit of looking online and I think there are essentially three mounts I need? I think?

I just have no idea who is reputable, which parts will last, that kind of thing. Given that this is probably quite a common thing to replace, do any of you guys have any recommendations for me?

What sort of thing are you looking for, is it just a standard road car or do you use it on track/fast road driving? There are good aftermarket standard mounts available, you can go down the polybush route, or look at solid mounts. The harder the material used to more possibility for there to be extra vibrations passed through the car, resulting in an uncomfortable feeling for some.

Thanks for the response!

The car's my daily driver, so I don't want something that's going to shake the car to pieces. I do appreciate a solid feeling from the car, and I am looking for something durable, but I'm not after anything particularly exotic at the moment. I probably wouldn't be bothering at all if I wasn't pretty sure the current set of mounts are on their way out.

Kangoo mount is supposed to be firmer. Cheap too
It's more or less the same engine isn't it? I've been looking at Renault Parts Direct but I can't find the Kangoo engine mounts on there though I did find these:

Based in Kent. Chatham to be precise.

Got a couple of friends with garages who can probably help me fit everything, but getting ahold of the right parts first is also important :tongueout:

Renault ones are s**t.
Euro Car Parts ones are s**t.
s**t ones are s**t.

Get Vibratechnics, (when fitted properly) at idle you notice a tiny bit of a difference. When you're 'on it' you'll wonder why on earth you didn't fit them sooner.

So, just to confirm I need what, four mounts? Left and right upper engine mounts, upper and lower gearbox mounts and the (twisted) dog bone mount? Part of the problem is that nobody seems to be using a consistent set of names for any of the parts. the "dog bone" gets called the "rear engine mount," "Lower engine mount," "Gearbox stabiliser bar..." At some stage you start to lose track of what's what. Some confirmation or correction so I know I've even got an accurate appreciation of what parts I need to replace would be appreciated.

At the moment, I'm finding the febi website a pain in the arse to negotiate and a friend of mine recommended K-Tec who seem to have reasonable-ish prices and a much easier website to negotiate so I'm thinking of going with mostly K-Tec parts- but the only replacement dogbone they do (as far as I can tell) is a "sport" item that looks very rigid, which I'm not sure I want, so I might have to find one elsewhere. Will get powerflex bushes for it if I do that. Anyone got a recommendation on where to look, or is the vibration from the K-Tec bit not going to be as bad as I think?

Dogbone, gearbox top & engine top mounts. Vibratech or Ktec for the gearbox/engine, dogbone from powerflex or Evol

Hah, just realised I said four, then listed five. In any case, thank you- so there are just the three mounts then? I think I know where to look for most of that. It's just that Powerflex don't do the metal part of the dogbone (they mostly just do the bushes) and I'm thinking of replacing the whole thing.

I've just had

Engine mount fitted with a powerflex insert as the mounting itself looks new ish.

Gearbox mount under the battery was a febi one.

Purple powerflex bushes fitted into the dogbone. No vibrations and drives spot on.

You reckon I'd be OK with the K-Tec "standard" upper mounts and a Powerflex insert & set of bushes? I'm looking at the uprated mounts and they look very nice (and the K-Tec website says they don't vibrate much more) but they are expensive.

Also, I'm having trouble identifying the third component pictured on this page: http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2471&catid=&appid=2&pic=4

Just get those imo ^. I've had others before and on my drive home after having them fitted I was really happy

Upper engine mount is a lot cheaper, haven't fitted mine yet though, and my original one is absolutely knackered so hard to tell what the difference would genuinely be, as whatever goes in should be a lot better than my current one

Anyone know exactly what is involved with fitting all 3?

Can it be done at home on the drive? If so , exactly what tools would be needed?

And most important of all, does anyone have a guide or step by step pictures?

If the major service was getting done would it be a good idea to have all 3 replaced at the same time or would it still be a lot of extra work for the specialist to do?

  Clio 172 Merc ML55
No reason why it can't be done at home, main thing to bear in mind is that you'll need to support the engine/gearbox whilst changing the mounts, gearbox side you'll need to remove battery first to get to it, drivers side it bolts into part of the top cambelt cover
