Engine ground?

  330i. E30 Touring.
There's two on the gearbox. One's a greenish coloured earth strap that bolts from the body to the lower gearbox mount. Another comes off the engine loom and bolts to the gearbox housing at the top/back of the box...

So just hook my 0 gauge onto where the greenish wires connects?

And i have to disagree because i've already upgraded my battery ground so my battery to accessories is running off 0 gauge, if i didn't upgrade my engine ground and alternator positive in theory i would be pulling more current from my battery than then alternator could put in.

  Polo + Micra
but the alt outputs power down the positive and the ground is there as a reference and the current from your install goes through the chassis to the battery

so upgrade to alt positive so you lose as little as possible but i don't see the point in the engine ground

Current can only move as fast as the weakest point in the circuit will allow.

alternator positive - alternator positive wire (0 gauge) - battery positive - battery negative - battery ground (0 gauge) - chassis - engine ground (8 gauge) - engine block - alternator negative

You can clearly see where the weakest link is in the charging circuit.

The reason i am upgrading the charging circuits wiring is because i don't want to be drawing current from my battery that the alternator cant replace. And when your engine is running your alternator is supplying power to your accessories AND charging your battery, so if anything your charging circuit should be able to provide more current flow than your accessory circuit.
