Engine Knocking

Hello,

My mate's engine developed a knocking sound last night, sounded as if something had come loose inside and was banging against all the metal inside. Engine still starts (only tried it twice) but seems to be cutting out after 5 or 10 seconds. Btw its a mk1 RSI.

His next door neighbour suggested it could be something to do with the camshaft?? Anyone had anything similar or could know what it might be?

could be big ends or main bearings, i wouldnt bother driving it round if i was your mate. have it looked at asap and yes it is likely to cost a bit but the engine could sieze if its not looked at
