ENGINE LEAK!!! Please help me.

  Recaro Black Gold 182
This is'nt how i thought i would first be utilising my new camera  , but hey! I seem to have some sort of leak on my car, i'm not mechanically minded when it comes to engines so here are some pictures of where the leak is coming from, if someone could be so kind to tell me if there is something i need to stop it or what it is leaking i would be very thankfull... because i'm bricking it.

It's at the base of the engine.

Its the sump nut.
I'd guess when your car was serviced they didn't use a new sump washer they alsways leak if you, reuse them.

ye mate, just go renault ask for a new sump washer, will just giv it you.

undo the sump nut, all the oil will gush out, prbly covering you and half your drive if your a spaz like me.
u need a pretty flat big bucket, bout 5 litres of oil.
new sump washer, tighten nut up.

replace oil.

altho to be honest while i was down there id change oil and oil filter.

only a little copper washer that gets crushed to ensre a tight seal.

its not serious at all mate, its practically nothing.

get the washer and go to smileys or wherever and make muse of their 12 quid oil change deals they have, give them the new washer to fit as well, saves you and the drive/street getting covered if you don't know what your doing.

Renault won't give you a new washer there £1 or so you want the one which has the bit of rubber on it. The mk1's used the copper one (also the gearbox uses the copper washers). You could use the copper one though its no problem realy. plus there cheaper 50p or so.

Its not a serious problem my mates got it in his just leaks some oil.
The sump plug should be tigthened to 35NM though.

On the 172's its a copper washer and shouldnt need replacing everytime you change the oil but obviously with this one leaking it could have a split in it due to over tightening or it might be something simple like the bolt not being tight. Worth a check before buying a washer.

ye it should be replaced everytime because it has a hollow middle that crunches closed,

^^not on mine its not. I got advice from a very respected person on here (no names ;) ) and they said there was no need to change the washer as its flat copper.

I changed my oil and never had a prob

o rite, fair does, i always do as it says in haynes manual, no reason why i shouldnt, not like it costs ote to do.

I changed the oil on my 1.2 about 3 times in the space I had it and I only changed the sump washer once, mostly because I forgot to get one and it never leaked a drop.
The 1.6 has had a new washer every time and its still weaping now, mind you its not done up to 35nm either as thats pretty high for a sump plug surely ? Might explain why its leaking a bit.

Here's a tip, when you get a new sump washer buy some loctite thread seal as well.
its' really good stuff. just apply some on your sump plug threads and wipe out the sump drain hole first, screw it in don't over tighten either. Deffo drip proof. :)
