Engine management light on. Please help.

  Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique +
Update:

The breakdown/recovery guy came out today. Oh bloody hell what a joke! Firstly he had no idea how to get the engine cover off, so had to go indoors to get the Haynes manual (as I had no idea either). He finally gets it off and stands there just looking at it, as if he thinks the problem is going to be clearly visible. Which of course it isn't. So I ask him if he wants me to start her, so he says "Yeah if you like".

I start her up and sure enough, misfiring like a b**ch and shaking herself from side to side. So I says to him. "what do you think? She's misfiring badly isn't she?" I was shocked when he said "Sounds alright to me love". So I rev her a little and yes , even more misfiring. So I say to him "Have you got anything to test which coil could be playing up, and if so have you got another to repair her with?" He says "I haven't got anything to test it and I certainly haven't got another one to replace it. I don't carry spare parts love". Unfuckingbelievable! So it turns out I have to drive her onto the breakdown truck and then follow him to my trusted mechanics at my local garage.

I have had a word with them and they think it is probably a coil. I have had to leave her there but will hopefully get good news that she is all sorted in about 2-3hours. ~fingers crossed~

I just can't believe the breakdown guy hadn't got a clue! What a frigging joke. He did say though that the most common cars for him to have to pick up were Renaults, especially Clios. :S

if yours is the same engine as mine, the coil should only need a torx bit (cant remember the size) to undo and just pull off the top of the spark plug, then unclip the lead. mines had 3 new coils already, it just drops onto three cylinders, you change the coil, and problem solved. i really hope that your cats okay, beacuse i had to change my downpipe/cat (its one big piece) and it was a pain in the arse, seized nuts, had to drop the subframe to get it out/in, and that was having every tool under the sun to hand (uncles workshop, yay!!) the whole affair made me question myself for buying a renault.:dapprove:

The simple way to find out which coil pack it is is to unplug them one by one with it running. On three of them the misfire will get worse, on the failed one it'll stay the same or be very similar.
