Engine management light

was out in my Clio (mk2 172) last night coming back down the motorway and the engine light in the bottom right corner and a light above the handbrake warning light come on and cut the revs down to 3000rpm. i turned the ignition off and back on again and it went off. Then about 15 mins later it did it again.

Any ideas why it did this???

The engine going into safe running mode that what give the 3k max revs.

There could be a few possible problem do you have any other probelms with the car?

I had that problem with mine and they replaced the throttle potentiometer and all was well after that.

seems to run fine no problems just been going in to this safe mode

got it booked in at renaut just it a import and the car is out of waranty

same with mine. altho some 172s ecu clear the fault when u turn the engine over.

this is what they did on mine, however mine is a 1.2 16v. the problem has never come back though

was the oxygen sensor on the exhaust

My 182 did this fairly recently (stuck at 200 rpm) and it was the coolant temperature sensor had gone, flooding the engine with fuel.
