Engine noise 182 (cam/lifters perhaps)?

Hi all

I'm new here, But I have a slight problem with my 182

The engines making a sort of diesel type tapping noise which seems to be coming from the cam or lifters area, it rattles until the revs go above 1500 and doesn't come back until the revs drop to idle speed again.

The car runs and drives perfectly and has been doing for a while since this started but as I'm free for a few days now I thought I'd figure out what the problem was and fix it.

Any ideas as to what it could be people and how much it might cost?

Really? It doesn't sound like it's coming from anywhere but the top of the engine (cam area). Wow I was a million miles off then thinking it was the cam etc

Where can I get one from and is it an easy job to do mate?

basically a cambelt change job cheapest to get it done is 300 at nwperformance iirc including part

^inluding full cambelt kit and aux belt kit for £300? i doubt it!!!

pulley is £135 on its own and its not a DIY job, approx 7hours plus all the renault specialist tools

The car had the cambelt aux kit etc done around 10k miles ago :S

unlucy then fella, you should never retension old belts

I haven't had the car long, but in the folder theres a receipt from a Renault dealer for around £800 which states full service including timing belt, aux belt, tensioners and service kit.

Is the part you've mentioned above not changed in the service? (sorry, I'm new to Clio's).

nope, it should be checked for play, but most of the time its just unlucky that they go

could it be the water pump bearing? When mine went it sounded like what you have described. I could of swore it was cam related like knackered lifters/tappets! But new water pump sorted! I was gutted because i had only just had the cam and aux belts done.
