Engine problem

i currently have a 52 plate 1.4 16v dynamique with 7100 miles on the clock since i picked her up in Nov 2002, over the last month i have noticed that when starting the engine up there is a heavy vibration coming from the engine bay and when switching off the same vibration which comes back through into the gear stick, now as sadly over the next few months i will be selling up to buy something new i need to see if there is something seriously wrong, i honestly know feck all about engines and what i can add is that car still performs same and there is no engine warning lights, was wondering whether there was maybe a problem with an engine mount as i have heard before of problems with clios engine mounts? any advice or piss taking appreciated

If it was the engine mounts then you would feel it through the gear lever when driving - whenever you boot it the lever would move a lot.

Does it start and idle ok, or does it cough/splutter a bit?

have a look at the lower engine mount. small twisted bar going from the subframe to the gearbox at the back. had a few work loose before and it may be worn/split.

varies from starting fine and quite spluttery in the mornings, but as i get up at 6.15am always took it that was due to it being cold, cant describe it properly but sometimes when driving their is a real shudder/movement when changing gears, was going to put it in to Parks but concerned they might hammer me for a big bill, will probably get it into my old bhoys mates garage and see what they say...if it is an engine mount is that covered by warranty or how much will i get shafted for?

an engine mount should be warranty.

Engine mounts were not covered under warranty on mine. If it is a mount then it will probably be the gearbox (dogbone) mount and that is about £10.
