Engine Probs

I have a clio 1.8 16v, phase 1 engine but in a phase 2 car!

1) Idles very low then revs up, on its way back down drops to bout 750rpm again and so on and so on.

2) When cruising along at a constant speed the car starts to jolt and slow down unless you press the accelerator a bit harder!

Can anybody shed any liight on this? much appreciated

Hmm I have a Phase 2 lump in my phase 1 Clio. SOme of the older Phase 1 clios. Didnt have fifth cold start Injector! But I would have thought it wouldnt run at all.

Not sure just a suggestion! The injector is in the MAnifold. Ask BenR he is man who will know!

dodgy water temp sensor? i read on a post somewhere that this causes bad idling. i know for sure that if you take the connector off the sensor the engine jumps up and down on idle...

Sounds like the ISCV. Ive had mine cleaned and its a lot better, drives fine now, but still revs a bit lowish when cold. Got a new one going in on wednesday. Everything should be sorted then.

not meaning to sound dumb but whats the ISCV?

I have bought a new water temp sensor today but if??? another bit could cause it i would replace it anyway!

1: clean ISCV, 2: water and/or air inlet temp sensors...

ISCV: smal electric motor that controls how much air enters the engine when throttle is closed, ie. keeping engine at idle.

Sounds like the ever troublesome ISCV... clean it and see what happens... but could be a faulty temp sensor.. runs like s*** with a dodgy sensor.. You need to measure the resistance across the sensors to check if OK.. cant remember what it should be when cold/hot. Water sensor is located in the thermostat housing (left side of engine), air sensor is on the right side (end)of the inlet manifold.
