Engine ticking badly :(

Boo. I hope not ben. Had the belts done last week :( guy said the carbon canister was a bit ticky, but it doesn't sound like it's coming from there

Definately dephaser sounding that is. How did you not notice it last week?!

It's a case of, live with the noise, or fork out for it all to be done again.

I thought the dephaser was the pully for the front set of cams (ie. inlet)? Sounds like it's coming from the back :S. It's wierd. I have been noticing a slight whine at around 1700-2000rpm (both in/out of gear). This was the same before and after the belts were changed (it could be the alternatory as the car has been stood for 4months). Nothing else though. Drove the car the day after it was done and no problems. Went to it last night and it seemed ok, but the idle is rubbish (running rstuner maps too). Seems very spluttery, and the power doesn't seem there to me. Now he could have messed the timing up, which i'll be checking on the rollers next month, but it seemed ok. It all started when I was flooring it in 3rd (private road ;)) and it seemed to take ages to get up to redline. Stopped the car, went to gym, came out, turned on and midway through the journey back it started doing it. So mad!!

I would just live with it Dave, but if it goes completely it will screw up the lump, and I don't want that to happen really. Plus as I said, it doesn't feel like it's running correctly either (not just in my head). I've ran it on CLIP and nothing is showing up on the injection ECU. Now it is 5 yrs old, so I need to change the plugs, so it might be that. Clio ownership is taking it's toll over the past few months :(

sounds like your timing is quite a long way out tbh. As it's changed how it runs since it was done, it may even have slipped so i'd be nervous the pulleys have been torqued properly

Mines exactly the same, has been ever since I got the belts done, I asked them about it and said not to worry, its getting worse now though not sure if its because of the cold weather.

It's nothing to do with the cold weather. lol.

Sounds too mechanical for the dephaser, IMO. They're very rattly.

That said, maybe it's just the video.

the dephaser probably wasn't cleaned out when the change was done. You're lucky you have a cup though, lots easier to sort out

Risky business. If something lets go, it'd be far worse. I'd be down there ASAP.

Anyway, back OT. Can you get another vid, Jonny?

It was a renault specialist that has done the work. 18years working for renault manchester. He's worked on a lot of sports too. He's got a good rep around here. He used all the tools etc. I'm going to go and see him later. I wondered if the sparks could be the spluttering issue, but if it's not showing a missfire, then it's probably not that.
