engine transplant

  2003 clio 172 ph2
i have just brought a 172 and the cambelt snapped on my way home so thought as the engine looked old and tired and has probably bent some valves. so thought it would be easier to insert a new 172 engine?

in this case would the new engine just be "plug and play"?

any help appreciated?

thanks

sorry if this has been covered before, would the loom off the current 172 in the car work with the new engine aswell?.. im new to this :)

brought it with no knowledge of belt needing to be done or going at all, got 20 mins down the road and snap it went. i had it since last night. was lead to believe the timing belt was done in 2011 and to date covering 17k miles. so obviously got lied to.

but every cloud and all that now get to get a better condition engine in there at half the price

Rushden near northampton. Got the car home toniight and started stripping engine back to see if bent valves or not

IIRC its an "interference" Engine so will almost have certainly bent valves

Definitely Lack of compression will be a tell tale - Will sound like its turning over really quick. plus if there isnt a belt connected trying to start it bend the valves if my some miracle you havent

only issue you could have is a ph1 has a different throttle body/uch/ecu so im not sure if the loom would be different or not - someone else will be able to confirm this

a ph2 172/182 lump is the same tho

20 miles n its poppedid of been tipping the tw*t upside down n empty his pockets

If the belt has gone its done the valves, I have NEVER seen one of these engines not at least bend a couple and normally its a load of them.

New engine from any 172 or 182 will go straight in, just use your upper inlet and throttle body on the new engine if the new one is different, that is the only place they vary that actually matters.

Keep everything electrical, ie loom/uch/ecu off your car still on your car, dont use any of that from the new car.

There is a lad on the CS facebook page that has just crashed his 182 and is breaking it with a good engine IIRC.

ive decided that ill get the engine in the car then drive it to a garage and get the work done by someone else

Its really easy to change the belt while the engine isnt in the car, its only it being in the car that makes it so awkward.

Sorry to jump in on this but worth a try as im a man in need! haha. Don't suppose you've got a flywheel off either engine I could buy off you?

Cheers, Tom.
