Engine Tuning

I have sold my R19 16v and bought wait for it........A 2002 Clio 1.2 16v.
The Clio looks the part its been lowered and it has OZ supertourism alloys the whole thing looks FAST but its not. I shall be collecting it next sat.

Can anyone suggest engine tuning to get more power.

Can the 172 + 172 Cup engine fit straight in there.??

Forget it Rob fen tried looking at getting a 172 engine dropped in but gave up with all the work tht was required.

You could drop the 172 1.6 etc engines or even a GTT engine in there easily but its the wiring etc which is more work.

you would need a wrote of 17 for all the bits and pieces. You would need uprated brakes etc.

To get some more power get a remap (not much more power but smoother driving ) exhaust decat and cold air intake that should be ~87hp much more £ is in my opinion wasted on the stonch engine.

Also the gearbox isnt very strong tom has bust three I think when it was stock.

The GTT engine in my opinion would be the best value its about £1k + a Gtt engine to have it doen profeshionally. Then another couple of grand and you have ~200hp reliably and you can drive round listening to a dump valve.

Ed thanks mate i think i might just have to do that. I shall run the clio engine as it is for the mean time. But i shall plan a GTT conversion in the near future. Do you know if the wiring and getting it all together is difficult? Does the engine go straight in??

Best to do a search for it. Brun had a GTT engine droppin in his Clio at GDI it looks very good in the pictures Ive seen but his is a MK1 clio I think. The mark 2 should be more spacious.

The wiring isnt to difficult I hear but that going into a Mk1 the Mk 2 has more wiring and there the ABS to deal with.

It should drop straight in its the other bits and pieces which are difficult to get right. Id get someone who has it done it before to do it. For £1k its not worth the hassle especially as there are comapanies who know what there doing out there.
