Engine whinning?

  A SHED!
My cup sounds like it has a noisy power steering pump, however this noise increases with revs with no turning of the wheel? when the car is hot the noise aint so bad, but on start up its annoying. Does anyone know if its anything serious? or just a clio thing.

  A SHED!
The bloke who sold it me said he had the belt and cambelt done at 43k by gdi. I have the receipt which proves that, but would theyve changed the tensioner? also it says on the receipt....cam seals not changed. Something to worry about?

cup setup is different, no tensioner to change. could be water pump or maybe alternator making a noise, very hard to say without seeing it.

not meaning to hijack the thread, mine makes a whinning sound at about 2k (only in a very specific rev range), aux belt changed 7k ago, this something to worry about really?

doubt it mate, mines had a bettle whistle/wine since having the cambelt and aux belt done. Ive driven 10,000 miles like this and even had danny/rich at GDI take a look whilst engine was out and they said it was OK. Also had a VW emchanic take a listen and he said its normal, some belts make a noise.

gdgd i just couldn't remember hearing it before, probably just not noticed it before now, but once you've heard it you seem to hear it continuousley!! thanks

i had one of the bearings changed on my auxillary belt, this progressively got worse the more i dirve till i worked out where it was. new bearing job fixed i did at first think it was the alternator bearing. I used my high tech probing stick to listen which normally works. Any metal solid rod or shaft will do to listen to different parts.
mine is due a cam belt and auxiallary next year.
