EPAS wiring

Gents after some advice regarding EPAS.

Recently converted by 1.6 k4m to a 172, and the last remaining issues to sort out is the steering. Obviously the plugs on the 172 loom steering ECU won't fit the 1.6 steering ECU so I'm guessing I need a 172 ecu.

Or option b is to cut the plugs off the old 1.6 loom and try and figure out which ones AR which to modify it to the 172 loom.

Advice as always welcome

You can run epas on a 172 as some have done (including me)

I assume your original car had epas rather than hydraulic steering?

You'll need a variable controller from eBay such as item 180984984338 and then follow the included instructions to fit

Any threads on this so I can do a bit of reading!

Indeed there is, type in EPAS on a 172 cup, either in the search bar on here or on google and it'll take you straight to it :)

If you still have your old loom you can save you self some trouble by using the old power/earth connector to the epas ecu, rather than having to run new wiring through the dash

@Ads29 I do indeed still have the old loom with connector for the steering ecu.

What I was planning on doing was removing the connector from the old loom and wiring it up some how.

Still keeping the old steering rack, old ecu and connector and get a live and an earth from somewhere

I guess if you have all the original sensors then theoretically everything would work as normal? I am purely speculating mind as I have no previous experience. I ran 12v direct live from the battery in through the bulkhead to the ecu and then earthed om one of the bolts for the metal dash support.

You'll need the sensors on the steering rack plugged in too for everything to work I believe, the variable controller method eliminates these when running 172 loom if you can't get your originals to work
