ESP On or off

  Elise/VX220/R26

Am I right in thinking that when you first start the car that the ESP and traction control are on, and that when you press the ESP button and the little triangle warning light comes on to warn you that the ESP/TC is off? Ive read the handbook about 5 times but it doesnt make sense to me!!

Also when I picked it up the bloke at the garage said that ESP doubles fuel consuption. The computers telling me Im getting 26.1mpg (which I think is not right anyway - I estimate nearer 35MPG) Should I be turning it off every time I start up and its not needed or just leaving it on?

ESP and ASR come on automatically when you start up. The switch disables it

Bloke in garage is talking sh*t

You should be getting around 32 - 35 mpg on average

Is this a 2nd hand car ....... maybe the garage is trying to hide a fault!?

no m8 its brand new but from a car supermarket place rather than a dealer. Suspected he was just trying to look like he knew what he was on about. I did however notice better mpg with it disabled (although its still only showing 28.7 on the computer, but based on when I last filled up and how far Ive travelled I rekon Im getting around about what you quoted there for mpg
