ESP problem

  Mazda3 2.2D 185BHP
Hey

I have noticed whilst i drive there is an odd vibration on the steering wheel, Now i put that down to an oldish car on crap roads.

BUT, Today i drove with the radio off for what ever reason and it made my other sences more alert to things going on.

Now to the point... I could feel what i can best describe as little pops and knocks at my feet, i will state that i could ONLY feel them, No noise what so ever.

Now these pops/knocks were happening when i was also feeling the vibrations on the steering wheel, Which i thought was odd.

So i drove to a brand new laid road which is Smooth as can be and did a few runs on it, And guess what? Same pops/knocks and vibrations.

I dont know why but i pressed the ESP button, and BOOM! No more pops/Knocks or Vibrations!!!

Can anyone tell me why the ESP system is kicking in when im doing 30MPH?!

No lights... So that means it's working correctly?

It's a logic machine and can only respond based on the info it receives from its inputs. If the lights were on it means something is clearly not working. What you have described is a fault arising from a spurious input signal and the ABS is simply responding accordingly. A visible check may throw something up if you're lucky but it may not be a crack that's the cause... It could be grease, a poor condition sensor or maybe a subtle bit of damage/corrosion causing errors to creep into the sin wave which is interrupted as a lock up on a wheel.
