ESP Warning Light

  Clio 182 with cup packs
I'm having an intermittent problem with the ESP warning light on my 182.
Then light comes on erratically, sometimes when driving and sometimes from cold.

Has anyone had a similar fault and what was the cause?

Any help would be appreciated.

Taking to main dealer in Manchester on Friday for a diagnostic - but I'm sceptical.

Does anyone know a specialist Renault dealer in south Manchester who may be able to give better help?

Cheers,

Does the ABS or serv light come on aswell?, and does your cruise control stop working?, if so it will more than likely be the brake light switch needs adjusting or is faulty.

Thanks Guys for the Tip

I'll be sure to mention it to the dreaded service department!

Have a go at adjusting the brake switch yourself as it may save you a trip to the dealers -

The brake light switch is located at the top of the brake pedal lever, open your drivers door, get down on the floor on your knees, make sure car is out of gear and start engine (which will allow the brake pedal to travel further down because the servo is now operating), push the brake pedal down and hold it there, at the top of the pedal lever you will find a small pin switch, pull out the centre of the switch as far as it will go, it is on a ratchet so you will hear it clicking, then let the brake pedal up slowly to the rest posistion, that's it job done.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the advice.

Actually the story unfolds.

Took the car to Renault Manchester and they called me later to say that some sensor needed replacing. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact name but I'll let you know once I have the repair bill.

Anyway they quoted me £500 (£400 for parts alone) so as you can imagine I was a bit taken aback!

Not to lose heart I gave Renault UK a call and I have to say they were exceptional. A very polite chap took all my details and contacted the dealer. He then called back in about half an hour to say that he'd passed everything on to a senior manager and my call was being dealt with.

The about another 30mins later the manager called back and offered to repair the fault free of charge!

Well you could have knocked me down with a feather - the car is out of warranty on it's 04 plate but they reckoned it shouldn't have failed in the first place.

So Renault UK get my vote. Zero to Hero and a Clio 1.2 while they wait for a part. Should be ready 1st thing Tuesday.

Happy Weekend!

Sounds a bit fishy to me, a Renault dealer now offering to do £500 worth of work FOC on car that is out of warranty.

I'll let you chaps know the outcome on Tuesday when I pick up my 182 and a free car wash!

Driving a 1.2 clio just isn't the same.

But then there's this awefully nice Meggy on the forecourt - anthracites and all.

Nooooo, don't let them put it through the swirlomatic.
Not all dealers wash cars badly.

Glad to see RUK manged to satisty you so well if you belived people on this forum there all devil worshippers so nice to hear a sucessful outcome. Shame the dealers didn't pursue it themselves.

Picked up my 182 this morning and it's sooo good after the 1.2 - everything working and nicely cleaned and vac'd out.
You've just got to drive something underpowered and wobbly now and again to appreciate what a fine handling car the 182 really is! Now how about a run past the Cat & Fiddle!
