Cool. I might feed the line to the cabin.. for high time at the wheel . Could i just remove this thing all together with no ill effects then?

Pretty much yea, just bung up the bit which feeds into the plenum or you'll have an air leak and high idle.

Since this has happened the car feels quicker, is there a logical explination for this or am i imagining it?

no i think your thinking of a power boost valve. This comes as standard. its behind the o/s arch liner behind the fog.
