Evo mag 182 dilemma!

So i have read the review the 182 got in evo and now i am quite seriously thinking of getting one. How much do you think i would get part ex for my 172? Its on an 03 plate with 4500 miles. The only thing is i got it from a car supermarket so i would imagine i wont get as good a price as if i had bought it from renault. Any thoughts?

To be honest i cant be bothered to go through the hassle of a private sale. lazy i know.

I paid £13000 brand new from a Renault dealer, had problems with the knocking noises when turning, arqued for 10 months and now i have been given good deal on 182.

think the only thing to do is to go to renault and see what they say. Should be interesting if nothing else!

It was a bit cheaper than £12500, Renault UK and dealer contributed quite a bit with a little from myself.

So how much should i realistically be looking to get off a new 182 at a dealer? I never was very good at this haggling business.

I dont think you will get it that cheap from a dealer, I know Auto Express say that you shouldnt pay anymore than £13600, so if you have had no problems with your 172, you cant really knock them down that much as i used the problems with mine as my bargaining point as they wouldnt take rejection.

Sounds a bit more bearable, depends on the part ex i guess. I am going to renault on thursday with my 172 to see what happens.

Nick you not tempted to keep your 172 and get a viper,de-cat, magnex and save yourself lossing thousands the second you drive the 182 off the forecourt and also the money you will have lost on your 172?

Neils right mate. I was also looking at chopping mine in for a 182 (only got it in Novenber) but its not just what you can get for your 172, its also the hit you take in buying yet another new car.

I paid £12,500 for my UK 172 from a dealer (through a broker) in November. With 2500 miles on it now, I would expect to get £11,000 for it in a private sale, mainly due to the number of 172s going cheap in the supermarkets.

So thats £1,500 lost on that in two months, plus about the same again as soon as you drive you 182 away fom the garage. I could afford it, as Im sure you probably can, but the question I asked myself is "Do I really want a 182 that much that I am prepared to throw £3000 down the drain??" The answer was a quite obvious "No!!!"

Ultimately its up to you. If want it bad enough then go for it!!!

A good point. Trouble is i am crap at waiting! I think it will hinge on what the dealer is prepared to negotiate on, if its not a good deal then i wont bother.

  Cup 172

UK Car Broker are offering UK 182s (probably pre registered, deffo not imports) for £12,300. I got my CUP from them with Climate for £11,750

You would have to get shut of your privately as they dont do trade ins/part ex.

Would they come with the cup options though? As EVO says there is not much point in getting a 182 without them.

Cheers Mike. I sent them an email to find out what they say about the cup options and how much they would give me for my 172.

b****cks. I just cannot be bothered with the hassle of that really. Oh well back to good old Renault Enfield then!

Just sell your car to the dealer then and buy a 182 from a broker. Youll still save money as the discount from a Renault dealer wont be more than the difference in the broker price.

Brokers will offer the cup options but I doubt the car supermarkets will offer anything other than the standard model.

Come come spill the beans. I just need to know what sort of a figure to aim for with regards to getting a discount from them.

Hes not got a 172 hes got a 1.2

its a 1.1 actually and its not a clio.

I contemplated swapping my new 172 for a 182, but then I thought it will be better to wait for the 2005 clio ;) and save myself a few k :) Hmmmmm Turbo (hopefully)

After all the 172 isnt really much different to the 182 apart from the ugly exhaust and a few minor mods, when evo was refering to the 182 as being the best hot hatch ever i believe they was refering to it as an overall package ie cup handling and speed with the 172 luxuries.

whats the 2005 clio like? any pics? little megane ???...no thanks!!

225 bhp turbo hmmmm big +ve point, throuhg the front wheels though?

wait a year the 182s will dpericiate faster than your mk2 172 thus lowering the gap between them and meaning you pay less to change.

+ the exhausts look a bit crap, why couldnt they make the rear bumper like the v6,i would have probably bought one for that alone!
