Evo on Gran Turismo HD !

Looks lovely...but the tyre squeeling sounds hopeless. That's the only problem with upcoming photo-realistic games, unless everything is as you would expect it should be in real life it kind of spoils the illusion.

Saying all that, I assume it still has shite AI and all the other usual GT problems that never get ironed out. At least online play should lessen some of the usual issues.

If I could be arsed I'd go over and download the demo at work as it came out for download on the 24th. I'll wait until next week now though when I'm back in the office.

seems like they got the cars lighting and reflections right this time.they don't look like plastic any more.....very nice.

After looking around that is a great looking game. Be nice to see what else its gonna be like though as some of the shots i have seen you can barely tell the rear car form the ingame car.

Saw this picture might consider buying a PS3 when the prices drop. Have better things to spend £500 on though at moment.

Ahh Gran Turismo, the only reason I bought a PS1 or PS2. I've never owned any other games, those CDs were in the drive from day 1. Remember if past games are anything to go by, the replays look better than in game footage! I'm sure it will still be awesome though....

Graphically I dont see why not the 360 has more muscle in the graphics card department and dont think any developer has topped out the PS3's CPU abilities yet.

Don't think they've topped the 360 out yet, that video looks awesome :D

Nice way to demo someone your shiny new HD tv :D

That is a replay I believe

Even still the actual game does look awesome and plays well. Only get one track and 11 cars for now. But it was free!

Is that vid of GT HD for the PS2 or 3, i hear there bringin out a HD version for PS2 aswell? Anyone know?

PS3 they have essentially canned GT HD and are focussing on the proper release. This is a free download based upon the new GT engine. So I doubt very highly if it will ever see light of day on PS2

I could never understand why the only PS2 game that was ever able to compete with Xbox graphics was GT3/GT4 etc whereas all the other games looked absolutely rubbish.

Wonder if it will be the same this time...

I will have to reserve judgement on these things until I see genuine HD footage pulled from the game by an independent person with no post processing. Unfortunately that has to be the case with Sony's history of doctored footage and screen shots. The basics of that video are genuine but it looks like it has been processed to smooth things out even further as I don't seriously see the game running such high levels of AA and AF and even if it does in the replays it won't whilst driving. I notice in the video for the F1 game I saw there was a lot of motion blur to hide the jaggy effects and make it look more real but I dunno if that was in-game motion blur or post processing again.

So I'd like to see the real thing running on my TV and then see how other PS3 games compare - or not as the case may be.

The problem I always had with the GT games was the absolutely dreadful AI which meant you were really just participating in a series of time trials with the object of tuning the car to the point that you would be as far away from the AI cars as possible otherwise they just stick to a set line and barge you off. Lets hope they fix that and have an online mode that works as well as PGR - e.g. smooth, lag free and with the same graphics you see in the official screenshots and videos...

Here we go. Now view that at full size and look at the jaggies and tell me where are they in that official video of the Evo? You can see them on the curbs, the cars and the dashed white lines in the distance. Clearly in that screen shot the levels of AA and AF are similar to those used on a 360 so what has happened with the Evo video?

Back to cardboard cut out spectators in that screenshot too...

The tree trunk in the foreground on the left also looks rather ordinary.

I would generally expect the game to look like it does in that screenshot I have posted. Perfectly good graphics so no beef with it. Just saying that Sony better not be trying to pull their usual tricks on me with doctored videos...

The F1 demo the motion Blur is in the game

I will attempt sometime soon to take a picture of both in action! They do both look good. Also Motorstorm is cracking!

Ok here are some. Not brilliant quality but you get the idea. The spectators dont seem cardboard in the slightest either

That looks great - really, really great. I'm well impressed with that. :approve:

I hope Sony match the visuals with the mechanics of a half decent racer. I like GT4, but it's about as realistic as playing Out-Run - which is a bit much when they profess GT to be "The Real Driving Simulator". ;)

You can always rely on SimBin to destroy your digital racing ability in an instant though.

I hope they make it onto consoles in the future, GT Legends HD would be an experience!

Yeah the GT series is a bit mickey mouse compared with LFS, rFactor and the SimBin GT games.

I play them when I want a serious sim and PGR when I want a highly playable arcade experience without getting too stupid like NFS etc.

I find that the GT games on Playstations fit uncomfortably in between. They don't offer the challenge and satisifaction of a sim and at the same time lack the thrills and freshness of PGR.

To be honest I don't expect any of the flaws to be fixed. It will be the same old plod of repeating races to earn money to beef your car up with the same questionable mods for more boring races against scripted opposition. In that sense Forza 2 will make me lose the will to live long before GT comes out in early 2008!

Roll on PGR4 and for gods sake someone make a new Grand Prix Legends!

You sure can - unless you're BenR of course!

I think all that's missing from the SimBin games is a decent and accurate damage model. Whether this would make a massive impact in the games' performance, I don't know - but they've managed it on the likes of Colin McRae, TOCA Race Driver, etc. I read that they negated the damage model completely in the Gran Turismo series of games due to licence issues from the car manufacturers represented in the game(s)?

Grand Prix Legends was always a bit too full on, I thought. I could see what they aiming for, but it was just too tiresome to be enjoyable. I still think that the driving model on semi-pro level within GTR2 is the best yet - on any driving game on any platform I have played so far. If they would just tie that in with the damage model mentioned above and then create a V8 Supercar game based on the Aussie racers, then I think I may have found gaming utopia.
