had my car booked in today to have the clutch cable fitted was told by renault it would an hour and it would be around 45 mins from edde and other people ..garage phoned me this morning because of the vast job involved they cant guarantee how long the job will now take min 1.5 hours right up to 5-6...whhhhaaaattttttt!!! told them to stop the job and i will go elsewhere..phoned my old garage i use to use who are excellent but a little bit expensive sometimes job done for 35 all in!!! i am going to have to wait a couple of weeks to have it done but just shows you may save money going with crappy mechanics but i will never do this again and will stick with the best even if it costs me an extra 5 per hour in labour!!! i dont think the garage it is at really could be arssed to do it even though i was booked in!!

I think I remember reading last night on Dialogys that it takes either 15 mins or 30 mins to fit a new cable. However, the clutch cable itself (for a 172 at least) is about £45 to buy. Whatever you do, do not fit a non-Renault clutch cable. It will not work! So £35 sounds too cheap to me. £60-70 sounds right.

cheers mate i got an official clutch cable from renault for 21.45 inc vat and the garage rate per hour is 35 so he is saying it will take an hour to fit which aint to bad

The 172 and infact any car with a big engine a pain for space but its not impossible.

You cna do the clutch in 7 hours so 6 hours is silly time.
