Excitor Wire

Hi

Can anyone explain how the Excitor wire works on the Clio alternator? I found it dangling next to the alternator whilst changing the gearbox. Ive tried to plug it back in the alternator but the battery light doesn't light up on the dash when ignition is on. Does it have to be plugged in the charge the battery?

Ive done some searches and there's not much info on it

Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott,

If your battery isnt flat then yes the alternator will be charging without it connected (I know this is the case on later renault models)

The wire doesnt trigger the light like older vehicles would, its a signal wire that will only trigger the light if 1) its connected and 2) there is a charge problem.

Id definatly reconnect it though as it will help if you ever do have any issues.

Hope this helps
