Exhaust Fitting

  172 Cup
Just took delivery of my OMP inox exhaust system for my 172.

There are no clamps or anything included but I was hoping to fit it myself.

I would just like some advice on how to fit an exhaust to a 172 - its a full system including decat pipe.

I have had a look under the car today and it seems ok up until it connects to the manifold downpipe as its quite tucked away and I dont have a pit to fit the exhaust.

Is it an easy enough job to do yourself or am I best taking it to a local garage and getting them to fit it

Oh and ideally want the standard system off in 1 piece as I need it back for MOT time.

Thanks!:approve:

best bet might be Norma/Mikalor clamps, as each clamp has a range of fitment; u-bolt clamps need to be exactly the right size. just measure the o/d of the pipes to find which size you need

it's an 'easy' diy job, although access to the end of the manifold is poor, as you've noticed

should be easy enough to get the OE system off without having to cut it at all

Ok sure i'll have a look at the omp system when im back and measure it.

I could see that access to the end of the manifold is pretty poor - hoping to get it done by a mate friday if that fails it will be in at a garage!

Mikalor clamps are very very good and well worth the money over u-clamps. If you get the front onto axel stands then access to the manifold bolts is not too bad, but you can't get the car too far in the air as you need somebody to reach inside the engine bay to get a socket onto the other side of the bolts.
