Exhaust keeps dropping

  PH1 172
Really annoying me now.....for the last few months the exhaust keeps dropping and it ends up looking chavy (sh!t) and banging on the rear axle

I have replaced the rear mount and used some one else's idea of supporting it with spare sockets and cable ties.....I have also replaced the centre mount and again used some ones idea on here and wrap a couple of cable ties around the rubber part to give it some more support and keep it's shape:eek:

For some reason the rear of the exhaust still keeps dropping as it seems the exhaust hanger does not tighten around the rear silencer enough to stop it moving and leaning to the right.

My question is what have others done and also has anyone ever made up another support to attach (172 only has one support) on the other side so the weight is evenly spread like the 182s? If so how did you attach it?

Sorry for the long post, just annoying me a lot now

Cheers

I don't understand your problem.

Cable ties holding it in shape and a socket in the bottom, you should have no problems, at all.

Post some pics up and I'll try to help a bit more.

Ok mate will get pics when I get home from work later.....

When you look at the back of the car the rear silencer seems to drop to the right as in it looks twisted and it appears that the exhaust hanger allows it to do this as the weight pulls down one side....ideally it needs another support the other side like the 182 to sit completely straight.

If it's twisting, I'd suggest it's twisting at the joint between the back box and centre section, get a good exhaust clamp on there and do it up tight. :)

Good point, it may have twisted at that joint, what a pain as it's sealed nicely with exhaust paste :(....will put some time aside to sort it this weekend and get it all straightened up. Might make up another support for the other side of the rear silencer just to spread the weight evenly.

Cheers Rob
