Exhaust longevity

Eeeek! My exhaust dropped off last night on the M4! Probably no surprise to most of you since, from reading quite a few posts on here, it appears that this is quite a common problem. What shocked me was how suddenly it happened. It took just 60 miles of travelling from the moment it started to blow until the sparks appeared in the rear view mirror!

The exhaust failed after exactly 4 years and 24,500 miles.

My question is this: has anyone had one that lasted longer or failed at a lower mileage?

I'm probably going to go for a Prospeed since this has had mainly positive reveiws on here and I will also be in Cardiff over Xmas. I now just have to avoid being pulled by the cops for sounding like a chavved-up Nova for the next 10 days.

failing exhausts ? think im on my 5th exhaust and its only 23k.
it fell off again 2 nights ago after only being replaced last week. piece of s**t

They don't take long to go. Mine was blowing on Monday and gone by Thursday!

im still on my original. 02 plate, 47k miles. its a 1.2 though, so i dont know if they are more reliable.

The exhausts on 1.2s last for ages, mine lasted upto 84k until I sold it and I think Giles's lasted upto 100k on his old one. Is there anything people can do to prevent there 172s exhausts from rusting/falling off. My car has had a new renault one put on by previous owner and its starting to rust at the joints, is there anything you can put on to protect them?
