Exhaust Recommendation?!

  Clio Sport 182
Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and just having a quick browse and can't seem to find any up-to-date threads on exhaust systems? Is there any recommendation (with potential links) for a Clio Sport 182 (decat) that will sound nice and also have a good impact on performance. The car at the moment is completely standard with only 30K miles on the clock :)

Cheers,

If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay?, and also what is the sound like?

also cheers for the link for the other thread much appreciated :)g

I was incredibly lucky and got my system for £227 from the demon tweeks outlet store online. It's usually around £400 and I would have paid this had I not been very lucky. The build quality and ease of fit really is brilliant.

Around town it's fairly quiet but you can hear it in the cabin but it's not intrusive, just a subtle sporty note. On the motorway it's near silent which is exactly what you want. Once really opened up it does sound fantastic and quite raspy. When the system is really hot I get the odd burble and pop on the over run or up shift.

Over all it's a good exhaust and I'd recommend it.

I was in the same position as you last year and with so many systems on the market it's hard to choose. The reason I chose the piper was just because it's good quality and I've heard good things on here.

No problem, glad I could help with the link :).

Have a look on YouTube, there's quite a few videos of various exhausts on there.

That's a good price you got it at then :) and yeah thanks, that's pretty much what I want it for :), again cheers dude for the help :)

Another vote for the Piper. Its actually pretty loud in the cabin, but fairly quiet outside. At low revs its OK and its not very offensive at 30mph so you wont be annoying people as you pop to the shops. On motorways the exhaust drone is pretty bad, you know its there at 70mph and it only gets worse the more you push the loud pedal!

Here is a video of my piper fitted to my 172. :)

That sounds like a petty awful review? Drone? Loud in the cabin?

The system is good. You expect drone and extra volume in the cabin with a performance exhaust. Its nothing worse than any other cat back system I have had on any other car. The system its self is a good looking bit of kit when fitted as well.

:) You wouldn't be disappointed, fitting a piper system, if you don't want the noise, you would be better off fitting a stock system and leaving it!

Sounds pretty bad tbh. Cant see many positives there.

My KTEC with centre silencer almost sounded stock with a bit of extra noise when I chose. Didnt drone on the motorway at all. Also didnt have a f**king enormous tip.

I counterpoint that yes, with 'performance' exhausts you expect extra noise - but surely you want nice noise? Not some boomy drone.

I have yet to find a performance exhaust that doesn't drone at motorway speeds, especially when running a decat. I would like it more if it wasn't so boomy, I agree that it is annoying, but that's the nature of the beast. When I first got the car I hated this piper system, but everyone who has seen/heard/driven the car has said they don't think its as bad as i made out. I might be making it out worse than it is because I have come from a bone stock Audi TT ans its been a number of years since i last had a car running a performance exhaust.

My 106 Rallye had a Decat group N Scorpion PugSport with 4-2-1 manifold and that droned something awful, but yet thats all the 106 guys would ever fit, be it a Rallye, GTI or 1.1, everyone fitted the PugSport! Same with the Saxos, I had a 3" SaxSport from scorpion fitted to my old VTS. Same level of drone and noise as the Piper. I would be disappointed if I fitted a performance exhaust and there was no volume change!

Remember the piper 182 rear back box is massive compared to a 172 system. There two completely different exhausts.

My piper cat back 182 exhaust is absolutely fine on the motorway with no drone. My tyres make more noise on the motorway than my exhaust does.

If my exhaust droned it would have come off straight away but I'm really pleased with it and I'd recommend it :)

Does it make that much of a difference? I thought they all sounded pretty similar. I would have loved a 182, but the ones in my budget were all dogs. Get a video up i want ot hear it! :D

Well judging by your review I'd say the larger rear silencer makes a big difference.

Your 172 looks nice. You should be pleased with it :)

Cheers! :) I am chuffed. Clio Sport PH2 has always been a car on my "to own list" Just thought it would be a 182 and it would be more of a weekend play thing rather than a day to day drive! Enjoying it though. Its a well speced little car.

Glad you enjoy the car, it's what these cars are all about.

Also if you ever get fed up with the noise levels with your exhaust maybe look into adding another silencer. I'm sure it would make a big difference and make the car more enjoyable on the motorway whilst still making a nice sound when you want it to.

Well I got a quick video of inside the cabin on the drive when I got back from work. It's not that loud...

Hi, mind me asking but how did you get it for that price!?

Well I was in the same position as the op, I really didn't know what to choose with there being so many different systems on the market. Then one day someone on here posted a link to the demontweeks outlet store website and because I was leaning towards the piper and the amazing price I just bought it there and then and a few days later it got delivered.

I was just lucky that someone posted the link because otherwise I wouldn't have known about it.

I'm really pleased with my decision and the price I paid is just a bonus :)
