Expensive job opinions please

Hey all been told need a new engine in car been quoted around £1500 this sound about right it's 172 ph2 anyone have any suggestions or advice thanks

You can do it a lot cheaper than that, new engine around £500, around £200 to fit iTard if the engine needs new belts add that on top.

Lol well looks like mechanic last night didnt have a clue and was looking for a fast buck trying to sell me a engine ect turns out aa have been out again this morning told me its a tapping from top of engine suspect cam or hydraulic I think any other advice bloody car is stressing me so much.

Sure it's not the de-phaser pulley rattling? , I would post a video on here and I'm sure some one like Fred@BTM or Mike etc would give you an opinion, I certainly wouldn't be spending £1500 on a ph2 172, You would be better breaking it for spares and buying a replacement.

Take it to a specialist is my advice. They will tell you exactly what is wrong with the engine rather than just tell you you need a new one!

I wouldn't pay that it's way to much funny enough someone said something similar what I will do is try n take a video now and hopefully someone will pick it up and see what they say think IMO guy was trying to make a fast buck last night.

That is fooked, run low on oil?

Oil is ok mate checked that not leaking or anything some are saying de phaser some are saying cam shaft/hydraulic at a loss on what to do at moment. Any one got any ideas.

Pretty sure it's not a de-phaser, Souds serious. I would wait for an opinion of a specialist on here. Maybe PM one of them?

I was told it had service history but can't find it anywhere what's the general view on what I should do next guys. Aa think it could be cam shaft or hydraulics mechanic last night said big end or bottom end something along those lines options I have engine rebuild new engine try n get to bottom of problem or break her up thanks for all your input.

My engine is making a noise but not like that, my goes away with a little rev and comes back on idle, seen a mechanic and says its more than likely my Dephaser pulley???

Cheers mate the sound might be worse cause I left the Damm cover on and it's loose let me do another one now without the cover have u had ur belts done on yours mate.

Yeah then owner before I had it did the full lot and it was done by the owner before him. He wanted a pice of mind and had it done again.

Worked carried out on the 16 march this year costing £800

That's broken.

Needs another engine fitting, pay £12 to join, buy a second hand one. Get it fitted.

If not, put it on eBay as spares and then buy another one.
