External USB Hard drive

How come when i Connect up my external USB hard drive it 'auto' partitions into 2 drive letters. Is there any way to link the 2 letters?

Also getting another USB Hard drive to go onto the same wire as the 1st USB hard drive(As theres room for 2 on the wire) and was just wondering if they all can be linked into 1 Drive letter :)

Hope you understand :-D

hmmm, maybe is was formatted as that, have you tried reformatting it in computer management?

obviously you would lose any info currently on there though.

Too much data to lose. would that be the only reason to explain why it is in 2 drive letters?

that i can think of yes, its not that big and if its split into two partitions windows would assign them both a drive letter.

you can concatenate two partitions to be one and therefore have 1 drive letter but i wouldn't recommend it.

Can't you transfer the data to your laptop hdd and then format it?

Yes but would take way to long to copy 120GB onto pc and then back onto USB

sorry, never done it, as i said, its not recommended so i have never found out how to do it, think it may need to be formatted to do it though or converted to a dynamic disk.
