Fact! R-Sport ecu DOES affect warranty!

Just rang R-Sport regarding their ECU. I asked the guy if it would affect the warranty, and he said quote "it would do, but only if they found out."

He then said that theyd only find out if they had to plug into the ECU, but you could always swap them back over before you took it into the garage!

yeah course it will void warranty as its a whole new ECU. Superchips and remaps are the ones thatdont void warranty as they are changing the ECU programming not the ECU itself.

But essentially its just the same thing...

Instead of leaving the original ECU in place and altering the setup, you just replace it with an identical ECU with a different set of parameters!

it is a renault computer and renault software but they wont cover problems to do with the ecu under warranty.

So really not a big issue...

If the R-Sport ECU went wrong its nothing to do with Renault anyway!

just remember to take the ecu off if you book it in at a dealer for running problems.they may try to reprogramme it although the reprogramming wouldnt work there is the possibility that it would f**k up the ecu.

Naturally... ;)

I take it this wouldnt be an issue with say a Superchip?! Would just overwrite it.

if its a piggy back chip like a unichip then the renault equipment wont access it because they are wired after the ecu not actually in it.dont know what affect a superchip would have though.

I was told ages ago that the ECU was approved like many others at the time, after all R SPORT LTD are a Renault approved dealer so why wouldn’t people believe them.

Since then I have spoken to Renault Customer services and they phoned R SPORT for me and confirmed it’s not warranty approved. I have written to R SPORT asking for written confirmation that it doesn’t effect the warranty and stating they told me it was warranty approved on the phone (I know now it’s not approved but i cant wait to see their reply!!!!) Oh and Tom182 they can tell its chipped when they hook their diagnostics machine to the car, different ECU number and they can’t flash/update it!

I have driven a standard Cup and a R sport Cup and have raced a Cup (ktec exhaust) vs a R sport Cup and there is no difference at all, R sported Cup pulled a bit in third (higher limiter) and the other Cup then came back and pulled half a car when I stuck it in 4th....... Take of that what you will, oh and it was a full on Craggy esk gear change I did so nothing to do with my driving.

At the end of the day most 172s and Cups are in and out of the garage all the time I would think very carefully about fitting the chip to your car. Plus when its in for servicing you would have to swap it out and if you broke down you wouldnt be able to get it towed to the dealer with the chip in just incase....

If you want to spend 250-300 on a mod get an exhaust which wont null the warrenty on your whole engine just the bits back from the exhaust (which is nothing)

has anybody on here got a superchip fitted?
Gary brown has one. He reconed he would get about 8hp more tops.

He had his car RR on a hot day and got some good power levels.

Ive not seen him on reciently though.

He was quite pleased with the Remap though

Chris (chris n nic) had his Cup superchipped, but was not too impressed, so he had it removed and got an R-Sport ECU instead which he says is better...

Well, Chris only gained +3bhp on his Cup when that was chipped...

Cheers for the namecheck. No, I never claimed any great BHP gains, but I was chuffed with the improvement in torque. This was my post back in August (when it was unbelievably f*cking hot!!) http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=6&TopicID=45225&SearchPagePosition=4&search=gary+brown&searchMode=allwords&searchIn=Author&forum=0&searchSort=dateDESC&ReturnPage=Searchhttp://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=6&TopicID=45225&SearchPagePosition=4&search=gary+brown&searchMode=allwords&searchIn=Author&forum=0&searchSort=dateDESC&ReturnPage=Search

Oh, and by the way, it was because of the warranty issue that I opted for the superchip and not the R-sport ECU; superchip is just a flash / remap, which is readily reversible. And, to further complicate matters, I am quite sure that any benefit gained from the remap has been totally lost by running the car on 17s. Hay-ho.
