Fan belt need replacing already!!!!

  182

When i bought the car 9000 miles ago i had the cam belt and fan belt replaced. It has been squeeling on start up since i had the water pump replaced and recently i had my 78000 mile service and asked them to check and tighten the belt.

They told me the belt was in good condition and that i didnt really need tightening. They adjusted it a fraction anyway and it has been as good as gold up until the other day and its started churping again!!

Would the belt need replacing again even though its only done 9000 miles, its pissing me off big time!!

Rob.

dunno, i thought the fan was electric.........;)

some just chirp when its cold, not a problem.......Cof?.lol

Mines been doing it loads latley, since its been really cold and damp in the mornings, but sounds more like one of the pulleys - sprayed a quater of a can of WD 40 on it in the last two weeks, and it stops, for about a minute, then got worse!

Scared to do it anymore cos i can see the belt slipping off.....it sounds like a russian WW2 tank 1st thing tho and it is annoying me to fcuk....

Wd40 is silly of course its gonna get worse.............

It never used to do it so im not gonna let it rest its annoying.

There must be an reason shorly the belt wouldnt need replacing just yet??

Hmmm.... you say silly, but thats exactly what my local Renault dealer did to my 172s auxiliary belt when I complained it was noisy!!! After emptying their can of WD40 onto it, I have to admit it sounded much better!

Belts rely on grip, so spraying with a lubricant will reduce the noise because its not working!

Belts do squeal on occaisions, especially when cold/damp. Not really a problem unless its happening ALL the time.

They must also be correctly adjusted when replaced!

Hope that helps.
