fan belt snapped

  clio 172
just wondering if anyone could help me, my fan belt snapped last week and after eventually figuring out how to get a new one on my car wont start? battery is fine could the timing possibly be needing done? someone also mentioned to me something about a crankshaft sensor? just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and what was the cause. its a 172 year 2001

thanx

aux belt or cam (timing) belt?

172's don't have a fan belt, it's electric

it sounds terminal if the car won't start though :(

The Clio don't have fan belts its either the aux belt or cambelt or more likly both have gone (aux belt shapps and takes out the cmabelt most the time) Its not cheap to fix get it checked the cambelt has broke and then try the specialist its not cheap to do even if your lucky and not much is bent. A few people have fitted new engines as its cheaper.

it must of bn the aux belt? it went round bout 6 pulleys and was a nightmare to get on! the cam belt, that seemed to be fine but has jumped and came off the marks, the belt that went had to be cut off as it hadnt completely snapped and looked more like it had been shredded!! the engine is still turning over just not firing!

If the timings jumped then bent valves ahoy! Get it timed up again and do a compression test, money says it'll be down on several if not all 4 pots. New head (if it hasn't damaged the pistons too much), valves (if your lucky) or engine time methinks.

Does it turn over very quick?

Yes, if it turns over very quickly without the rythmic loading on the battery then the worst has most likely happened. I've heard that sound twice on other cars.... It means there's no compression in the cylinders due to bent valves etc.

i think there is compression somewhere as it backfires? not sure bout it turnin over, if anything i think its quite slow, kinda like when ur batterys dead. i dont know much just goin by what my dad has told me. got someone cumin to see it tom so hopefully gunna get something sorted!!
