FAO all valver owners.

Hey all, ive had my valver since 8.30pm wednesday. must admit, im blown away when i put my foot down. what a fantastic car.

Just a couple of questions:

1. is it normal tohave noises coming from the car when i turn the wheels???

2. i had a discussion with my mate tonight, he reckons that his 106 gti and my mates VTS will beat my valver, what do u guys think, i wouldnt race them cause i havent quite gotten used to the car yet andthey have had thiers at least 6 months.

already have to make my first repair to it tommorow!!! i made the mistake of letting my mum have a drive of it round the block, she only went and snapped the handbrake cable!!! oh well!!!

i think ill have to change my username now which probably means signing up again, right?

think the noise is normal, is it a kinda motorised noise? if so its the same as my williams, its the power streering, hope this helps

Yeah, if its motorised, then its the power steering. If theres knocking etc then post some more details and well diagnose it for you.

I wouldnt ever count on victory against the other if I had a 16v, VTS or 106 GTi. I used to underestimate the Saxo/Pug duo, but theyre probably the nearest youll get to a Valver in terms of modern performance. Craggy (who used to have a Williams) has a proper 172-chaser with his VTS, which is faster than 16vs - but we suspect thats a freak car. Otherwise, the chances are that the 16v would be pretty even below the national limit, but pull away a bit at higher speeds. Whoever wins, it would be by single car lengths, not proper pannings.

If you havent had the Valver for long, then youll still be learning how to drive it properly, so youll not have the edge. It took me nearly a year to learn how to do a proper standing start without either bogging it or smokming the clutch!

If you want to change your username - Ask one of the admin team nicely and Im sure they will help!

PS. Mothers and cars do not mix - My mum drove her focus into the back of my old Fiesta zetec-s

mate if the noise your talkin about is liek a screaching noise,i had the same problem with my valver when parking ect it would make a screaching noise , so i got some power steering fluid + conditioner,it helps provent leaks and squels , so for 5 quid its worth a try mate!

On full lock especially it will make a straining noise, cos its, err, straining, nothing to worry about and the power steering is always going to make noise

My mum wont even go in mine!!!

Power steering Noise in the valver is yet again another Renault trait yo0u have to live with. There are a few different noises that may occur:

Whining while turning wheel - this is just common place, some owners advise topping up powersteering fluid. I never have and mines fine.
Loud clicking on full lock - This is normally the pressure release valve clicking away cos its on full lock. This is a saftey feature so Not a problem.
High pitch screeking near full lock. This doesnt happen on my car nut have heard on others, This i yet to know the cause.
It doesnt mean the power steering is on the way out. Mine has done it for the last 4 years and is fine.

Concerning the race - I would have thought you would beat them as long as know how to drive you valver properly. I have raced many 16vs/VTS/106GTI and beaten them fair and square, however i did race a VTS who did beat me only very slightly to 100. I organised a race with a 106gti/chip/airt/zorst - my 16v being standard, and he beat me ot 100 bu then realed him in and overtook him, all recorded on dash board camera. He said i woul dhave beaten a standard 106 gti no problem.

Cheers
