FAO Any Alarm Fitters or Anyone Who Knows Cobras (need help asap)

  BMW M135i
Have (tried) to fit a Cobra 3868 this afternoon. Due to the major lack of info about i've followed this wiring diagram:
http://www.m-sjoberg-ab.se/pdf/Manual/3800_3868schema.pdf Although I don't know what the brown (brun) wire is going to or is for ???

Its working to the sense that it can flash the indicators and the doors, boot and bonnet switches work. I can also put the pin code in and page though the various options.

The problem arises with programming the alarm to respond to the renault key fob so that it can arm the alarm, when I follow the attached instructions I get the rapidly flashing led but the alarm does not seem to recognise the keyfob being pressed. Have tried it with the spare key and a ford and vauxhall fob and it still didn't work.

Have found some different instructions here:
http://www.m-sjoberg-ab.se/cobraspec.htm
But being in swedish I can't follow them obviously.

I'm pretty much at a brick wall here, i've tried eventhing I can think of (not much) and its not progessed any further.

If anyone has any ideas or ANYTHING they can think to suggest I want to here it as i'm stumped atm. Anyone with any proper english diagrams or instructions would help massively too.

If the Cobra colours are the same as the Renault fitted alarm. The wires that connect the oem plip lock to the alarm are . Mauve/White...Orange/White and Black.

Where are you trying to connect the alarm to ? the locking control module ?
Have you got the Cobra wiring diagram ?

Give me the home address of the site you are finding these diagrams on and I will work it out for you.

Right, I have had another look and dragged the Swedish au pair out of bed just for you.
The brown wire goes low on arm i.e. negative. This can be used for activating sensors or LEDs or scanners and the like. It is a low current device so don’t use it to turn on flood lights. If you don’t need it just insulate it.

On your diagram there is a bunch of four wires with the title…. STYRKABLAR FÖR AKTIVERING / DEAKTIVERING OBS! Larmsystemet får endast deaktiveras via fordonets original fjärrkontroll för att SSF intyget skall vara giltigt
This is your connection to the cars locking module, but I need to know the colours to help on this.

Do you have the diagram “B” as below ?

Refer to the B diagram specified in the dedicated installation manual enclosed in the kit of the
antitheft.

Can't thank you enough for the help on this.

Not sure tbh.

That is the only place i'm getting any info from (about half way down). Theres a few diagrams on there but my swedish is non exitant so I can't tell what i'm looking at.

http://www.m-sjoberg-ab.se/pdf/Manual/3800_schema_A_G_010614.pdf <-- That any good ?

edit:

In the cobra manual i've attached above it has the activation/deactivation controls on there, is that what i'm missing ? (thinking it is, not sure what the left lateral bulkhead is though)
I'm thinking that because I assumed I didn't need these and i've left them out the alarm doesn't know i'm locking the car so it doesn't read the plip signal ?

Ok, have made some progress this afternoon. Pretty certain its due to the activation/deactivation wires not being connected (no sh*t sherlock lol).

If you look at the Renault Clio 2001 Plip.pdf file above then there is an activation controls section which is what I haven't wired up yet, makes sense that this is causing my problems.
I have found the Black connector and positions B8 and B4 for the Grey/Black wire and the Yellow/Black wire under the lower side trim but i'm struggling for the others.
The position B1 serial switch I don't know if it means the central locking switch on the dash so will look into that now.
The ground is obvious the only ones i'm not sure on are the Orange and Orange/White, not sure what it means by +30 mentions it for the main power supply so I don't know if it means a 12v feed. No idea how/where I can get that from the fuse box though as I can't even get to the wires at the back of it without removing the lower dash.

What do you think ? Any ideas ? Your help is mucho appreciated as ever :D.

Right, I have had a look at the diagrams and it would appear what you have is a selction of options to fit all different central locking options. So the first thing to do is identify which option matches your car.
I dont know how your car differs from the 172 my Son owns and to which I have just fitted a Clifford alarm in place of the rubbish Cobra one they fit when the cars are imported.
What I would suggest if its not too late, is you whip the dash top off and lift the passenger airbag as all the connections are easily accessed in the space exposed.

+30 is constant live battery voltage. -31 is earth +15/54 is ignition controlled supply. +50 is the starter (solonoid) motor supply from the ign switch...these are standard abbreviations.

1n 5406 is a 6amp diode. 1n4004 a 4amp diode

In Dia "C" the wire marked Lila (purple) and orange are the lock/unlock wires from the alarm module to the centre console switch to door lock module, and the gul/svart (yellow/black) and gra/svart (grey/black) are the switch on wires from the door lock mod to the alarm unit. These are the ones that actually turn the alarm on.
I am not really sure why they show so many options as the thing is really quite straightforward.

I know the colours used by Cobra on the dockside fit 0144 alarm but they dont seem to match those you have.

Let me know if this helps......

First, you can get to the back of the fuse box by removing it. Disconnect the Battery first as you can easily catch the tops of the fuses when moving it..
Undo the two screws holding it in then wriggle it out. The connect the battery again.
The Cobra add-on on the 172 picks its power up from the sunroof fuse 30A (green) this is live all the time (+30)
You can get to the connections on the door lock switch by the gear lever, use a test light to check the connections,

Well f**k me sidewards, I think what i've just been through is known as a learning curve :).

Figured it out in the end, had to wip the dash top off in the end to fit the ultrasonics (wish I knew I could take the airbag out would have helped no end) then had to play hunt the connector to find the B4+B8 wire it was after. Eventually found it under the passenger side trim by the bonnet lever. Then tried to find a serial connector for about 20 minutes before reading it again and it said serial switch which I guessed was the door lock switch on the dash which luckily it was.

Instead of pissing about with the fusebox (too tight to get out easily and couldn't be arsed with fighting it out) I just ran a fresh 3A fused supply from the battery for the Orange and Orange/White reference wires. (should be fine yes?)

Connected it all for the moment of truth and yay it all works :D. All the door+bonnet+boot switches seem to work so do the ultrasonics although they could probably do with their aim adjusting (any tips?) although I could just be expecting them to be mega sensitive. They set the alarm off when I get my hand through an open window does that sound about right or should they go off as soon as hand fingers go though ?

Still can't believe I missed what I did seems so obvious now :dapprove::eek:.

Really, I can't thank you enough for your help on this. Probably would still be stuck now if it weren't for the pointers and help you gave me. :D

Well done, I think a visit to the fridge is in order.

The ultasonics sound fine, you dont want them too sensitive or they will cause false alarms. Your power connections should be fine also.

I looked hard at those cobra diagrams and searched the Autodata discs for info on your car and now I can see what they were on about with all the door locking options.

They are covering all the models in the range, 3 door and 5 door and all levels of trim. Amazingly they dont fit the same locking system to all the models.....thus the options diagrams....so we have both learnt something.

I hope you get good service from your alarm,
Cheers....

Oh yes a fridge visit was definetly in order after that ordeal, strange about the different locking systems on different models you'd expect them to have made one system and chucked it in all of them.

Think most of the difficulties boiled down to the fact that either had little info or it was in bloody swedish and I couldn't understand a word of it. But at least I got there in the end, just took a while longer than I expected.

Once again thanks for your help :D.
