FAO Anyone With A Powerflex'd Dogbone Mount

  TVR Cerbera
Maybe, pass and tbh there isn't much point arguing the toss anyway. That was the second time the gearbox had been off and it was fine the 1st time and 100% is the right bolt. I don't like them, Martin_89 had similar problems as me the main difference between that and yours is yours has the 4th mount as an RS whereas the 1.6 only has 3 so all the load for stopping the turning moment is placed on the dogbone whereas the 4th mount takes a lot of it out of the RS.

I've had a 1.2, 1.6 and 172 and standard for the standard the RS gearstick hardly moves in comparison. So you can't compair one fitted to a fit to one fitted to a 3 mount RS, that happened to mine so i've got my opinion end of.

can i ask, what's the 3 mount / 4 mount thing? i presume you mean top engine mount, dog bone, top and bottom gearbox? i've not looked under a non 172 bonnet, so wouldn't know.

the 1st one is for a mk1 clio 16v/williams etc , its says mk2 tho so probably fits them aswell. anyway ive had mine ( the 1st one) fitted for a few months now and have'nt had any problems as of yet, acuatly it's made the gearshift 100% more positive and stops any horrid knocking sounds coming from the eng bay:)

Yes the second bar was fitted, it doesn't take the bending force that the gearbox hole takes. The standard mounts are soft for a reason, I won't be using them again. Thats off my old 1.6 anyway so it's all dead and buried.

just looked at your pic again, which way is the hole ovaled? to the front of the car or to one side?

Front/Rear of the car, its started doing the same thing that happened to Martins. Why fit one? Because he wanted to, the improvement would benefit his car as much as yours.

I've got no doubt it'd probably be fine in an RS with the 4th mount but i'm thats not what i'm talking about, mine was fitted to a 1.6 without the 4th mount (like all non rs models) and it did that. This thread is a year old ffs it was posted to highlight the problems people might have as a lot of people were fitting them at the time, somehow your talking this really personally.

The box is an alloy casing and that probably happened over a 2/3 month period, the alloys deformed under the stress as the bolt is being stressed/tryed to be bent. Its the only thing stopping the forward/backward movement on a non RS.

sorry dude, i didn't mean to offend you, i was just digging for info. didn't see how old the thread was to start with. ironically i fitted my dogbone bout this time too! maybe the powerflex are not suitable for non rs's as they can't take the strain.
i'm gonna leave it now, cheers

Thats the conclusion i've come to, they'll probably be fine in a 1*2 due to the 4th mount as tbh the level of movement a powerflex'd non rs gave was the same as a standard RS. I'd assume that the bushes were designed that hard because of imo the minimal movement an RS has as standard. If you thought your cup moved about a lot before you put the powerflex bushes on try driving a normal one and you'll see how much movement there is and you'll see why it can/does oval the box hole as all the load is on the one mount, theres a lot of it and the gearbox casing is only allow and is reletively soft. Would only break the next weaking thing if the box didn't give.

there was no damage to the thread in the gearbox when i removed mine from my 172 but it DID kill my top mounts in about 5 months......

i think bmh.01 has hit it spot on saying the RS 4th mount is probably helping or preventing the problem.
