fao anyone with ds2500s

  182 and cherokee 4.0
had mine fitted yesterday with a set of braided lines! just wondered how long they took to bed in etc.

i am just using the standard disks, they should still have plenty of life left after 38,000 or so aye?

  182 and cherokee 4.0
do you find these took a long time to bed in? am i right in thinking the pads are larger than standard ones and so it can take a while for them to wear to the right size/wear down the excess?

mine seem to be poor from cold

  Mk2 172
get them red hot!! simple as. get the pad hot all the way through. it says in the instructions with the pads

They are the best brakes i have ever had. Red hot, i have felt like i was going through the windscreen.

  Lionel Richie
takes about 30min to "bed" them in properly, a few laps of brands with your left foot on the pedal will do

This is good to know, I have got some Brembo Max HC ds2500 and goodridge lines :):):)

By the sounds of it braking hard i may need a helmet ;-)

should the edges of the disks been filed before the pads were fitted as the disks have not been changed?

  H&R + Pole Position'd Cup
Pads are the same size I think so shouldnt matter. You'll need to file the edges of the pads down though and remove the shims so they can move freely

  182 and cherokee 4.0
ah. the edges of mine haven't been filed, will this be a problem? what are the brake shims? i have no idea whether these have been removed?

  172
You should'nt need to file the lip off the disk... if theyre that old and worn then they need changing. Too much heat + thin disk = cracks.

And theres no way a set of front disks will do 38,000. 25,000 - 30,000 maybe

I changed onto some new DS2500's on my last trackday at lunch time, took car for a quick spin upto around 40 outside the circuit, did about ten hard brakes down to about 10 then went staright onto track after a few laps were awesome :)

so am i likely to need new front disks aye? i won't damage the pads in the meantime will i?

i take it the rears should be fine?

  182 and cherokee 4.0
the pads are on so i assume whatever needs to be taken off must have been?! ah i'm confused ha

  172
Well without seeing them its hard to say, theres no way they will do 38,000 without needing to be changed. Need to measure them and make sure theyre not near the minimum thickness.

Generally u can tell by the size of the lip if theyre fubarred.

Edit: As long as your pads move freely in the carrier then they will be fine, You dont want to bed your new pads onto old and uneven worn disks.

how long should the rear disks last? most people just replace these with the standard renault ones?

  172
Front disks between 20 - 30,000 miles. The rear disks will last more before they're worn out, although normally the disk faces corrode before they wear thin.

Depends on the pads used, how you drive etc

  182 and cherokee 4.0
soz, was just talking to me dad there and he reckons the disks were changed not long after the 24,000 mile service so they should be ok.

i had totally forgotten. they were done under warranty as they had been sticking and were ruined

my car seems to squirm about under braking more and the abs kicks in more readily, has anyone else found this or know why this might be?

  Golf GTD Mk7
wierd. They didn't put in shims on the back of the pads or something did they? Mine sometimes pulls to one side, but usually due to the road camber. Never manage to get my abs to come on (when it wet it does).

just read through the post. What did renault say about the sticking discs? Did they just change the discs or did they look at the callipers? Could have a siezed piston or slider meaning one of the brakes is working overtime. Did the pads that were removed look the same on both corners?

  182 and cherokee 4.0
i know. are the shims little metal clip type things? if so i don't think they did as i got two back with the old front pads.

don't know if i am just over-analysing things but just get the sense that they aren't quite right. might get the bloke that fit them to have a look at the weekend as i'm back to see him to get my matched inlets fitted (at long last!!!)

i can't remember what they said/exactly what they did now but the ones that came off seemed ok. i'll have another look at them tonight when i get in. cheers :)

On mine there were 4 shims per caliper. 2 in the carrier which needed to be clipped off (sort of a U shape :S), and 2 on the back of each pad.

the u shape things have been removed i think but not sure if the others were removed. i will ask the bloke that fitted them.

what difference would it make if these hadn't been removed?
