FAO Daz / KDF re: Ipod (again) :)

Hi chaps,

I have my 60gig ipod wired into my new Apine 9850ri car headunit, but have an annoyance which i want to try and sort out.

The problem is this : I can see all the display of the ipod ON the screen of the Headunit and its UBER good. But if i wanted to put on say The Progidy i have to start at "A" all the time and scroll through ALL the "A" listed artists, then "B"s "C"s etc until i get to "P"... if i THEN wanted say "Sean Paul" i will goto "Artists" and it will start at "A" again... so off we go again scrolling from "A" -> "S"... i dont mind scrolling through them all but it is quite tedious and im sure im gonna crash one day ..

What im wondering is... Can i arrange the "Artists" folder so its only a 26 entry list from "A" -> "Z"? - I could then scroll easily to say "K" then within there would have all the artists beginning with "K"... at the moment it may have say 15 artists in "A" then 30 in "B" and so on and so on... with 9000 songs and NO ipod wheel thing on head unit takes quite a while...

Am i explaining it alright? hope you guys (probably Daz/KDF) understand what i mean..

yeh thats what i was thinking about doing biojo.. think thats the only way....

Jonesy : no mate, get one.. its fantastic... theres no other way any other HU could solve the problem... im so so pleased with it the only way around it is if you actually had an Apple wheel thing on the HU.. which i cant see happening!... my problem is my admin of the ipod.. once thats done then all is cushdy ... and thanks for mentioning the itrip GavFre, but this HU is a far better solution it really is a stunning piece of kit.. i just need to admin my iPod better thats all ... If you were ever in Hertfordshire jonesy feel free to ask for a demo of it mate..

This seems like the way around it... BUT i thought Playlists could only be 1 folder level deep...

Are you saying that i could pick PLAYLISTS > "A" > "AEROSMITH" > ALBUM 2 > TRACK 1 (this would be perfect!)

See what i mean? OR would ALL songs by artists beginning with "A" be in one massive playlist?? so it would have ALL of AEROSMITHS tunes from all their albums in there + all other "A" artists???. (this would be not good!!)

iTrips are ok but don't compare to a hard-wired connection.

You can't organise the list, but.. sounds like an Alpine issue.. as the iPod itself (just tested on my Nano) remembers which artist you are up to.. and when you go back to Artists or Albums etc.. it's where you last left it.
