fao everyone with tapping 182's..

if anyone has a tapping sound on idle (only when warm) and builds up after about a minute of being on idle.

speeds up with revs till about 1.7k then goes.
give it a good rev and it dissapears for all of 10 seconds or so where it starts to build up again and cause sever anger!

can only seem to hear it when sat inside the car too.

if this is exactly what yours does.. can you add to the list?? gonna be ringing renault UK about this as my car has been into the stealers about 3 times about it with no luck.

*one time they told me it was normal
*next time i took it in with the charcoal cannister post by TVO, they said they couldnt hear it when i showed them it. then said when i collected it that they had sound deadened it to fix it.
*then its no different so next time its in i mention it again, to be told that renault uk wont authorise repairs if its not on their system as beign common fault.

so could do with some numbers of who its happening to for when i speak to renault uk customer care..

im not sure dink.. i ve heard the VVT is only used on idling

so maybe it 'could' be something to do with that??

Mine ticks on idle pretty sure its just the injectors, comes in waves if that makes sense??...

i can hear tapping from 182 (04 - 22000miles)

I've had for nearly a year! Just as Guys but my tapping can be heard from the outside now too...

My 1.2 is noisy on idle. Might aswell have a ford transit diesel engine chucked in. Sound about the same

What kind of tapping? Is it like a tappetty sound like what you get on some old cars with hydraulic tappets?

My 52 plate 172 does exactly this. Renault dealers said they couldn't hear anything unusual when I took it in to them, so I'm just ignoring it for now.

Renault said there was nothing wrong. Load of balls I say - it shouldnt sound like that.

get them to check the injectors, most injectors on the clio sport range are generally very noisey and give a 'hydraulic tappet' kind of sound, which can worry some drivers! its perfectly normal, not everyones problem will be down to this, but im sure a good few are. my 172 cup sounds like that and at first it set off alarm bells in my head! but after speaking to a few renault techies and high tech mechanics they gave it a once over and put my mind at ease.

Mine does that with the Air con on.

Not sure on the noise though, Sometimes I think its making a noise but then I think I am paranoid because its french :dapprove:
