Just create an encrypted disk image and put your files in that.

You can't password protect a folder as it is protected by your user permissions - other users on the system can't access the file unless you specificially give them access to it.

yeah just right click on the folder, get info then at the bottom there are box's to make it read only, write onlye etc.. theres something there to which means only certain users can access it.

I think you can download a program which hides folders you'd rather others didn't see.

Dunno. Didn't read the link that was posted. I don't think there are any serious problems with DMG files as they are so common in OS X.

Something I've never tried that might "hide" a folder from the finder.

Open a terminal.

try renaming a folder so it starts with a . (fullstop) i.e "mv fred .fred"

might hide it from the finder, not password protected by may not be visible.
