FAO: telford_mike : pipercross filter

Hi Mike,

I rang the pipercross ppl this morning about how much oil I should add
heres what they said to me

There is no real reason to use the oil, we find that you
only really need it when you are is dusty conditions.
I run mine dry and wash it out with hot soapy water every 5000ks.but
their is no harm using a bit of oil.
good luck

But I searched the forum, some guys said the oil is the thing catching the dirt..not the foam......

Well, should I wash excess oil off and reapply just a bit?

The car runs Ok, I just worry about if any of the excess oil will get into the engine.....will it?

Please help!

proffesional advice from almost every racing expert.....use oil.

It is the ONLY filtering medium in the air filter, the foam merely holds the oil.

and sine you wont loose power from using the oil, is there any reason why you should not use it?

obviously that piperX person was not somebody i or you should listent o about anything from now on! lol

the oil wont get into the engine.....as long as the filter isnt dripping wet and absolutely soakedin oil but they dont give you that much. I have a spray on oil with white dye in it. When you spray it on, you keep goin until the white from the oil becomes apparent, then rub in, then do teh other side....easy peasy.

Just put enough in that you cant see the oil, but if you rubbed you hand on it, then your hand would have a skim of oil on it...

Thanks BenR,

Always can count on you!

I guess the guy will learn the hard way when there is something wrong with his engine.

I think I put too much, its dripping...and can see the oil..but I have let it settle overnight, so any excess oil will probably be at the bottom of the airbox.

Ill put just enough next time.

Cheers Ben!

I use oil on the filter till it soaks.

Air pressure (not alot) from inside to outside the filter, and then a quik oil respray.

done.
