Few more Upgrades....AGAIN!!

  Shed.
Sorry guys ill probably wait till the begining of feburary in all honesty, but you could give me some ideas as what to get.

Im now after:

A new Monitor
New GPU
New PSU
and some more ram.

Ive got these in mind:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-038-AC

24" acer 2ms response time and 50,000:1 contrast ratio, specs are there but would you buy it ?

No GPU in mind at the moment, but i was looking at the 280's. From what i can see on tom's hardware results, theres only a few fps difference on crysis at full graphics, and other cards (even my 8800gt extreme) arent far behing and its only when the graphics settings get lower that the 280 really makes the difference. Or should i stick with my 8800gt ?

Another 2gb of ram to go with what ive already got. (OCZ 1066 Nvidia SLI stuff)

750Watt corsair PSU

Im in 2 minds as to whether to just get the Monitor and the ram or go for a gpu upgrade too but tbh my 8800gt s***s on every game except crysis right now.

I'd keep your 8800GT to be honest and wait for the next big GPU overhaul, that's what I'm doing.

i'm selling a 650w corsair if you're interested.

wouldn't bother witha 280, get a 4870x2!!! woooo

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Wouldn't bother with either ATM, both companies have a very early 09 release for their next chips... Monitor seems ok but of all the sizes I prefer 22" - slightly lower resolution with little detriment in size, gives your computer half a chance of playing Crysis. Only caveat with that is you don't get to play 1080p movies but I play games on my PC and watch movies on my TV...

Definitely stick with the 8800GT, there's not enough difference in performance to justify the cash in my eyes!

Head - arse - remove. The 8800GT is on a par with my 9600GT machine, and my past reviews of the 260 makes a mess of that. They're in another league.

Firstly, no need to be a c**k.

Everyone is allowed their opinion. I haven't said that the 8800GT is the be all and end all I just simply stated my views that I didn't think it warranted the extra £100. To some it might be, to me it isn't seeing as the 8800GT plays everything I myself want it to fine.

As can be seen here:

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/3DMark06-v1-1-0-SM2-0-Score,792.html

The 8800GT makes 5260 in 3Dmark06, and the GTX 260 makes 5849. Yup, thats a 600 point increase, and I'm sure the GTX out performs it in every way but IN MY OPINION it's not worth the upgrade, I would wait until later to upgrade as the 8800GT doesn't exactly struggle with stuff.

Now now :)

Right i figured itd be best, theres only crysis it'll struggle with right now. Keydog is right, it doesnt exactly struggle.

David, id rarther go for something a bit bigger wattage wise to keep me in tide for future upgrades.

Also, i tried your advice of 8X and 3.2GHz, cant see much of a different tbqh. Im at 1.45 v and its cooler ?? Might have another play again and push it a bit further. 52oC max so far.

Michael, you are reading core temps right? Not CPU temp? Not trying to offend just want to check :D

yehn understanable i'm going for 1000w to power a 4870x2, with room for another. Will stick it on fleabay then.

Sounds like the lower multiplier is worth it then just for the few degrees off. maybe push it a little higher make sure on load doesn't go above 70 though i would say...

crysis is the only gamer that makes all the cards struggle so it's not special. Least you can play everthing else..maybe wait till top end cards come down or another midranger comes out thats got a worthy performance benefit

Wait till next year before deciding dude. It moves so fast something better for the cash will likely be out or what you wanted now cheaper

It was unstable tbh, im on 9x again i think, and at 3.4GHz 1.45 V. Will have a play around with it. Was reaching temps of 56oC.

Yeah i think ill take your advice, but i am tempted by the monitor and the extra ram.

If it was unstable at 425 you should have dropped the FSB a little bit.

3.2 at 8x is better performing then 3.4 at 9x.
