I was thinking. Type R = too old wth high milage for my price range. Clio - poor quality build and tacky interior, not as reliable. I cant really knock the ST, its an all rounder car I think just abit slow.
Might sell my ST and buy one in white. Im always like this, too undecisive. Im just woried if I go for another ST I may regret not getting a Clio (again).
ST185's are not crap, but id rather have a Clio.
As for the handling being on par with a Clio, i have never read this anywhere.
The ST185 is what the Fiesta ST should have been all along, and for me that makes it a very good small hot hatch, but nothing exceptional.
I agree with your 185 comments but I think Ford were trying to lure in a slightly younger market, with a lower insurance band, good mpg, decent performance etc.
Your completely right mate. I remember reading about the Fiesta ST and how Ford said they could of made it higher BHP but that the car is aimed at a young market so was kept low for insurance etc, but knowing by putting a 2.0l engine in it could easily be tuned to a higher BHP after it has been owned for a while.
Got to give it to Ford on that, very clever by pulling in youngsters and then they can tune the car when they are of a certain age rather than buying a faster hatch.
My mate has done this and gone 2.4l bottom end (he imported a block from the US) he has gone throttle bodies and uprated cams amongst other things and the rolling road put it at just over 250bhp. He has done a LSD on it as well as upgrading suspension and brakes. Having been out in it I was surprised what an animal it is, it sounds just like a touring car.
That must shift!
I imagine he could of got something else for the price, but its not always about that. I bet he is very happy now he has it all done!
His next project sounds very good!
True, I guess its about building/owning something different to what the masses have?
I did laugh with him at the time that he must like a challenge buying a Ford!

As said, owning a Fiesta and spending mega bucks on it sounds a bit silly when you could buy something faster and nicer but if you are into projects and one-offs, then it must be a good feeling completing something like that, regardless of cost.
Have to say, there are loads of ST's going about just now, especially in white. Not all of the people driving them are young either!
He has saved a fortune on labour costs as 90% of the work was done by him, building the engine, suspension mods, installing a LSD,brakes etc. I guess it gave him more money to buy parts. Well thats what he told his Mrs anyway!
His is blue with carbon stripes rather than white and very subtle badging which states ST250.

Or buy this for your Fiesta and itll be quicker than a 182 and you can still enjoy the "comfort"...

But arent Fiesta STs meant to be a bit sloppy in the bends compared to the Clios?
182 is much better than an ST, in looks and performance.
yes get the clio.
the st should have always had 183bhp from factory - it was well underpowered from a 2ltr. so i wouldnt pay 1500 out of principle to get a car still not up to a 182's ability (IMO)
