Final drives

Afternoon all,

I've been looking for a box for my Ph1 with a diff in and someone has offered me a cup box with a Megane final drive and a gripper.

Ideally I was after a cup box for the shorter gearing but I can't figure out if a cup box with a meg final drive will actually offer me that after a vigorous googling.

Can anyone shed any light?

I think its possible that you have understood things a little wrong. The megane part of things will be the 5th gear. The final drive will refer to the crown and pinion gears. Now as i understand it the final drive ratio of a PH1JC5 089 gearbox is of a higher ratio to that of ANY ph2 JC5 129/130 gearbox. The actual 1st to 5th gears on all the JC5 *** gearboxes are all the same, its just the final drive in the 129/130 which is lower ratio than 089.

Oh forgot to mention, the Megane 5th gear would change the ratio to 0.891. Hope this helps

I think it's possible that someone has specifically said 'megane final drive' to me and you're telling me things I already know?

Gearbox Final Drive Advice

Looking for some advice.... Im currently in the process if building a Clio 172 Cup for Tarmac Rallying. Will be competing over in the Isle of Man in November, and a few stage rallies next year. My questions is, I think i will be buying a gripper diff, but unsure as to which final drive to go...
