Finally Declared my mods...i think??

iv bin driving around for a while now with un-declared mods( just alloys n lowered) but it was constantly on the back of my mind, so i phoned my insurance company (quinn direct), expecting to be paying alot more, especially as im 17, but they said that it will not raise my insurance??which i was very surprised about....but the bloke was foreign and i couldnt understand him....and so he may have not of understood me!?and so im back in the same position!!!

i just thought it was wierd that adding alloys n lowering my car would not effect my insurance, as u hear people complaining about it all the time...!!

any1 no wat i can do??

They must have a UK number to call somebody on.

I would ring back to make sure the mods have been declared, they should also send you a new policy with them written on there as proof that you are declaring the modifications !

Glad to see you have declared them tho! :D

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
phone them again, chances are you will end up speaking to someone else. Some insurances companies don't charge extra, but I don't think its too common.

  cock mobile.
I called mine yesterday about my exhuast as it's not standard (well I'm pretty damn sure it's not).

So I called them and said I think it's not standard I bought it like that, they said no problem we'll just add that to your policy and there's no charge.

Wicked :)

Makes me feel better about the straight through mid pipe come Saturday ;)

  Leon Cupra R 225
I declared all of mine just under a year ago, spring, wheels, zorst, induction kit to mention. And it bumped my insurance up 220 with admiral. If your mods have been declared and your policy amended they will send you an updated policy with the mods clearly written and the new price of the insurance on it.

k, cheers, looks like i will have to phone them up again, i jus hope i get someone english this time!!!;)

i mite phone my insurance company and say someone told me me alloys arent standard, but i didnt no as theyve got a renault badge in the middle, i assumed standard.

( renault branded speedline turinis :p )

worth a go innit. try n get it for free.

only reason ther not declared at the mo, is most ppl wont insure yound drivers with mods, or the ones that do are stupid money.

mates dads got a recovery truck can get me if i crash n swap um over if anything bad happens

If the accident is too bad you wont be able to swap them if your car is inpounded by the police and your in hospital. Just declare all mods as your insurance is invalid otherwise. Theres nothing like piece of mind !!

^ Thank you. Another person with a brain. :)

I was taken away from the scene of my crash in an ambulance - not much chance of changing them wheels/suspension then is there.... *rolls eyes*

dick, i would jus fone ur insurance company and say u were thinking bout getting alloys, n ask 4 a quote, and i expect u will find it wont add to ur insurance by that much,as i sed im 17 and it didnt add 2 mine , most of the insurers go on whether it adds value to your car!!

I declared all my mods with bell, they only charged me £15 admin fee each time. Thats Alloys, lowering, spoiler, exhaust :D

Dont think thats quite true, because nearly all modifications detract from resale value of a car! Its normally to do with making the car a more desireable target to thieves, vandles etc.

im jus going on wat quinn direct jus told me, they basically sed aslong as none of my mods add value to my car, then they really dont care!!it would be nice to have it in writing though!!

I've not declared a fair bit. Cup spoiler, splitter, inlets or remap

I'll run the risk...not being big about it. But there all subtle...Hardly noticable.

after readin recent posts on declaring mods, rang admiral and declared all mods, my alloys, springs and exhaust, only extra £77 on my insurance. thought it would be more than that

  Clio Dynamique
when i declared my tints it didmt cost anything - my alloys have put it up a bit not declared spoiler and my exhaust has added ........ £3 haha. in the long run theres not much point in not declaring what youve got - if anything was to happen youd loose everything. :)

Quinn Direct have told me on two seperate occasions you can do any modifications as long as they do not increase performance. So basically unless you have engine work done or possibly S/S exhaust. :) I was very happy about that. He said you could have them added to the policy in a way that you increase the value of the car so you would recieve more back than normal in a write off situation.

^^Ahhh basically what they have done is acknowleged the mods but wont pay out for them. if they put it down as an increase in value, they'll pay out for them, at ealst thats how i interpret that

  Monaco Blue Mk2
^ Yep pretty much. You're not driving round with void insurance as they allow you to mod bar performance stuff, but if you want them paid for in an accident you have to increase the value of your vehicle accordingly which will no doubt increase premium. Still, the likes of Elephant don't pay out for mods you declare anyway!
