First Clio... wow!!

  Clio 1.6 Dynamique
Hey guys,

Bought a Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique two days ago and I love it!! :D

53 plate with 74k on the clock I got it for a good price (I think)
Full service history
All receipts
2 previous owners (both ladies)

Needs a little tlc with the body work. ..scratches here and there

How much would u say its worth?

After driving a vw t4 for the passed two years im well impressed in the speed, comfort and handling of this little beast!!

Anyways I don't know much about cars/engines/suspension/handling ect. So hoping for some guidance!!

I haven't got alot of cash lying around so this will be a slow project. But im wanting to (in the near future)...

Lower (no idea how low)
Alloys (16")
Sports grill
Carbon wrap bits and bobs
Tint windows

Not sure how to upload a pic!!

Don't want to guess the price, but as long as you got it a good deal, happy days! Your ideas sound fairly subtle, good call....but don't tint the windows! lol How low were you thinking of going?

Well I paid less than 900... i felt like it was a good price.

Maybe 40mm??

Yeah seems good! A set of Eibach springs would probably work well then, they're a popular one and are supposed to give a decent ride for a lowering spring. Getting a set of Eibach Sportlines fitted to my 182 on Friday actually.

going back to a non RS clio I think if I was fitting eibachs again id stick 172 hubs, brakes and dampers on it too! (if they fit cant remember what the ball joint looks like on a non rs!)

Cheers guys.. ill have to look into this. How much would that come to?

And isit worth getting my hands on sport bumpers? Or will it look silly?

Springs are about £170. The RS bumpers would look silly with the standard ride height and wheels, in my opinion. Could always get some 172 alloys on, and some spacers to bring them out a bit. Suppose you would end up nearly having a 172 replica then though!

bumpers ideally need wings which need sideskirts and you would want arch liners and spacers/wheels too so it ends up an expensive route although can and has been done a lot and looks brilliant!!

I recon you would get 172 hubs for £50, front callipers and new discs and pads (oem nothing fancy) for £100 and id want to put new dampers front and back with eibach springs, probably £450 all in, but if it was me again id go down that route or leave standard. im fussy though

Cheers for thw hwlp martin but ill leave standard. Just drop it 30-40ml and alloys.

Any cheapish ways to get it abit quicker? Induction kits? (I sound so dull)

1.6 is a good little engine but not very tunable, Fastchip (www.fastchip.nl) do the RS tuner which allows you to upload one of their ECU maps, a few of the 1.6's on here are running them. Not massive gains to be had but gains none the less.

panel filters in the standard airbox can free them up a bit and im sure there is a throttle body of a 2.0 laguna that is slighty bigger that fits.

again there is probably power to be had from exhaust manifolds and exhaust systems available on the market for these but really, all the above could cost you £1000 to gain somewhere between 2-10bhp, really not worth it when £1500 could convert you to a 180bhp 2.0 16v, infact £1500 could buy you a 2.0 clio! lol

Haha well I think ill just keep it a straight 1.6

I was looking at 2.0 clio's but my insurance was going to be sky high.
So im saving up at the moment.

Ill just concentrate on the above mods at the mo!!

Could u explain why the springs ive uploaded lower the front more than the back?

Also is it worth the rs spoiler?

the springs lower the front more so its slightly nose down, helps the turn in.

I had a 1.6 16v with they springs fitted...

if its a dynamique you have it should already have the 172/182 spoiler fitted, but if its a 03 plate or older it will be black plastic rather than colour coded, if its a 53 plate onwords it should be colour coded (there is a few that don't go by this rule depending on registration date!)
you can also get the CUP spoiler as fitted to 172 cup and 182 cup cars, looks like this..

Nice buy DMC, I've not long come from a 1.6 16v myself :) Had a K&N induction kit, powerflow exhaust and RSTuner remap like Martin mention. sounded really really good :)

If you was to do anything with the body I'd go with 172 rear bumper, colour code front bumper plus strips and add sports grill. looks nice that way and saves having to do 172 front with wings and liners.

Look at KChristmas's non sport here

Stunning example, If I still had my 1.6 I'd make sure it looked like that. Minus the Black wheels and yellow badges :)

Cheers Evo mate... im well happy with it :D
I drove down to Portsmouth in it last night. Was lovely!! Surprisingly quick!!
And was getting 48mpg (is this good) compared to my old vw its amazing!!

Ive got the 172 spoiler I believe mate. Im going to keep an eye put for a cup though. Not sure if ill get a 172 rear bumper but I will have a little at them.
The first mod is carbon wrapping a few fews... going to have a go myself
I was thinking of wrapping all the black trim and then the sports grill (when ordered)... opinion on this evo?

And yeah that looks stunning!! Love the alloys on it!!

No worries, Yeh I was surprised when I drove it, not what I expected moving from a 1.7cdti. wow 48mpg your much lighter footed then I am :p

I haven't seen anyone do all the bump strips in carbon so couldn't really say, you could always try I guess, can always pull it back off if it looks over the top.

Look forward to seeing your progress.
