First time in 3 years...

That my car has failed on me.. its wasnt a great day on the whole to be honest.

Mate phones me to say he is splitting up with his wife so can he crash at mine tonight.. I go through and pick him up .. drive back (20 minute drive) and park up. Go to start the car about 30 minutes later... nothing.. just ticking noises I notice the lights go really dim when starting, pressing foot on the brake pedal etc.

So in the end I had to call out the RAC, who came out and gave a boost charge to my battery which solved the problem.

Worst bit of it was all the chavs in their saxos were parked up aswell...... cause I had stopped in Maccy Ds PMSL ! oh the shame...

Weird thing is it started fine this morning.. think im gonna go buy a new battery though as the alternator is deffo giving out a good charge.

  don't

so u went mccy ds and were hanging about with the chavs with ur music blazing out and ur battery went dead :)

only joking :) must have been a bit embarressing, just be glad u didnt have a crash, i saw a big transit van upside down on my way to work this morning

"Look my xbox runs linux, bet your chav ones dont do that!" :p

Could have been your starter motor, was the battery definately flat? Next time try leaving it in gear with the hand brake off and rocking it backwards and forwards a couple of times then try to start it again.

PMSL ! fair enuff..

Actually that was the weird thing, didnt have anything but the interior light on, starter motor was just ticking.. as soon as the guy connected the power pack all the interior lights went really bright and the car started first time.. so ye I guess it was the battery.

Oh one other thing.. was I right in thinking that bump starting it would have been a bad idea at it still has the cat on it.

yes if you have turned the engine over without it actually firing as all the unburnt fuel will be in the exhaust system. Bumping it will the cause a big fuel burn in the exhaust which may well crack the cat

People forget that batteries arent really supposed to last anymore than a few years even though some go on longer. I put a new battery in my last car on its three year service. The battery was still fine but its best to replace it whilst it is still working.

Doesnt mean its the correct thing to do! http://erc.qmuc.ac.uk/rolleyes.gif

Ditto comment about the unburnt fuel, there is a risk involved with it.

My brother had exactly the same problem, although he wasnt in Maccy Ds and found that he had at least one cell in the battery dead.
