First track day car

New to this forum and to Clio`s. Decided to try a few track days for me (55yrs) and my son (22yrs), made an impulse purchase, a Clio 197 F1, question is, how do you guys rate this car? and how do you think it will work as a first track day car? all comments and advice appreciated, good or bad! Thanks

It’s a great car that you have chosen.
Brakes and tyres is where I would look at spending some money before your first day out. Nothing major, good pads and fluid that will handle the extra heat and new discs if it needs them. Some ad08s would be a good tyre if you plan on taking it to and from the track on the road.

Hi and welcome!

I did my first track days in a clip r27 and it was perfect! If you’ve never done track days before you won’t go far wrong. The car was comfortably more capable than me, so even when I was getting a bit silly, there was always a decent factor of safety to let me know when to come in.

The only thing I changed about the car was the standard pads to ferodo ds2500s with some super blue/gold fluid so the stopping power was brilliant.

Continental premiumcontact5 are an incredible all round tyre for wet and dry driving.

So if you feel the need to modify, those pads and tyres should see you well. Get some tuition and some days under your belt and you’ll Ben laughing

Thanks for the positive comments, we have pretty much decided that Blyton Park will be our first outing late Jan, will change pads for this and see how we go. Here`s our car, if you see us around please call by and say hi.
