First Trackday

Evening

Got the track car sorted a few weeks ago so booked up an open pit evening session at brands for yesterday, having never been on track before and not knowing how the car drives we thought it wise not to go too far. Did the 2 sighting laps (wearing the new pads in) as passenger to my dad and then stayed out for another 10mins or so. We then did around 15mins each alternatively for the rest of the night, with similar times inbetween to let the car rest.

The car performed briliantly considering it hasnt been out of first gear for the last year or more. Plenty of grip in the dry and predictable when it started to rain and get damp out there. Only problem was the heaters only blowing hot and the manifold heatsheild getting stuck to the manifold and creating a stink. Oh and the lack of power after driving my own mk1 daily.

We are booking bedford for next month and back at brands the month after and i cant wait tbh.

Pics below (bro is to blame for lack of quality lol)

It's certainly a buzz isnt it taking it onto the track especially for your first time, i remember taking my vts on rockingham at fcs 11 and trying to keep with a celica gt-four, and not a sniff of keeping with that haha, how did you find it ? anything around the same sort of speed ? and any more plans for the car ?

Didn't really get in any 'duals' with other stuff there as the track was so empty. Only 14 cars out of the 17 booked. Think I managed 1 overtake lol.

Only other stuff of similar size were a 200,197, 16v powered rallye. About 3 Porsches inc a GT3RS, one of which tried to overtake in a few corners.

Short term plans for the car are a decat and manifold as the standard item minimizes room in the bay, few cosmetic bits and bobs and that's all.

Suppose at least with an empty track you didnt have to worry so much about being in the way to much quicker cars etc and you get to enjoy the track more rather than worrying wether or not youre in the way, looks a nice little clio youve got there is this going to be a long term track car with major plans or you going to be getting something else ?

It will be a long term track car but no major plans. Our aim is to not spend too much on the car except the important stuff like brakes, tyres etc, so that we can spend the money on more trackdays throughout the year.

In the future it will most likely get a williams lump dropped in if one comes along at the right price but apart from that its pretty much there.

a long term piece of fun for you then really, cant ever see that getting boring i certainly wouldnt if i had a track car, and yeah means sense i suppose saving for more rather than putting mods onto the car that are so expensive you never even get to try them out ! That sounds quite tasty a nice williams dropped in it, do they go for much these days ?

Ah I did wonder if any of the Clios were off here, yours was going well mate. The white 200 went off in the rain just before we left.

Took a while getting used to driving the car for the first time too, next time out should be a lot better.

Yeah mate I did wonder too. Your car looked like fun to drive! I thought the lad who turned up with his dad in the Blue 1.2 oasis was a legend, Nothing special about it just out to have fun.
