Fitted a ph-1 airbox

Fitted a Ph-1 airbox to my Cup today, got to say it's made a difference as the throttle response seems sharper and because I've not fitted the CAFs I'm getting alot of induction roar.

What I don't understand though is that it's quietened the exhaust down and took away some of it's rasp, I'm not complaining by the way as the car feels nippier now but I don't understand why the exhaust note has changed.

I can hardly hear my exhaust over it now i've took the CAF's off. It sounds awesome over 5K RPM though.

I was actually waiting for you to come on FaceBook and tell you about it actually. lol.

Yeah that induction roar is loud, it must be to over power the noise my exhaust makes.

The gain you think you feel will probably be down to the noise and the fact theres no caf's connected

what exhaust do you have jonff? what do you need to fit it all? elbow? or will the phase2 be ok?

Got a k-tec supersport stealth (alot louder than standard for some reason) and I just used the original elbow to fit the ph-1 airbox, it's abit tight but it just about fits.

Yeah I do appreciate the noise can act as a placebo effect but there's definitely some small gain there because now the car reacts as soon as I touch the throttle, where as before there was a slight delay. I had a Viper fitted a while ago, even though I had the induction roar I could tell the car didn't like it.

I was the other way round. Had the stock ph1 on and ditched it for a Viper and the Viper felt a hell of a lot better.

Key with IK's imo is not to connect up cold air feeds as this limits the amount of supply.

The strange thing is, I had a Viper on my other Cup and that responded well to it. When I had the Viper on this Cup, I tried all sorts, moving the CAF in to different positions then as you say just disconnected it all together. Nothing worked so I removed it and went back to the ph-2 airbox until yesterday.

Could have been down to the map ? Did you reset the ecu at all?

Idea of a IK is to get more air in, more air in, in theory could change the cars response as the fueling would maybe change, ie leaner thus slower ? Just a thought lol

My 1st Cup didn't, but this Cup has a R-Sport ECU, raised rev limit, smoother torque curve so it has no 5k kick etc etc.

It's the only explanation I guess, other than saying "It's a Renault" Lol.
